My son jacob is 5 (he will be 6 on april 26) he is in kindergarten. We recieved his first report card last week (kindergarteners only get two report cards a year and no midterms) and it was horrible, he had monstly Needs Improvements and Unsatisfactory for all of his skills listed. My husband and I went over with them with him at home and he knew everything he report was showing he needed extra work on. i know he gets bored at school because he attended 3 years of pre-K before going to kindergarten. Any ideas on how I should handle this situation?

I have done something with my son that lets him be the teacher to me. I also have some computer games that my son plays which are actually a year ahead of what he's doing. (1st grade). You could try that & see if something like that works.

My daughter will be 6 on April 7th. She is in kindergarten also. I stayed at home and worked with her a lot and she also went to pre-k for a while when she was 4. She started kindergarten reading on about a 3rd grade level. She has had problems with getting in trouble in class, not paying attention, not finishing her work (because she is bored with it). I have had to have conferences and frequent communication with the teacher. She has her taking AR tests, but she reads those books at home and is still bored in class. She doodles all over her worksheets and told me that they don't learn anything new at kindergarten, they just play and fill out worksheets =(

We still get Needs Improvement on a few things, but it is getting a lot better. She recently tested for gifted and talented and that will start soon. I hope it will give her something interesting to do.

On one hand it is great to have a child above average for their class, but on the other hand they are usually hard to keep focused in class if it is a review all year and not a lot for them to learn. Have you had a conference with his teacher? Maybe she will work with you on trying to get him focused?

Have you talked to the teacher? How does he behave in class? My daughter is pretty shy and doesn't talk much at school so it is sometimes hard for the teacher to evaluate her.
