My son is now 6. We have a conference with his 1st grade teacher in October. She said he reads between 1st and 2nd grade level. She was going to move him to a 1st grade reading group. She never did. At the end of the school year she said she didn't because of his impulisive behavior. I was talking to his doctor about is in June and he said if she would have moved him he would have acted more mature around older kids. What do you think? Was she holding him back?

I would have your doctor write a letter? Or recommendation for your son to move up. Kids often act out and get bored when they are not challenged. I would understand if she felt like he wasnt emotionally ready to be around older kids but if his doctor thinks it will help then so be it..could he stay in his grade level and just be assigned more or different books? Im not sure I would want my six yr old being in class with 8 yr olds? of cpurse it only two years but theres a big difference in what they are interested in and such ..my mind just went blank.. I hope some of this makes sense..
