Eggs? When to start?

When can we start giving our kids eggs? My daughter is 14 months old. I've read a lot of things that say to just give babies egg yolks and not egg whites yet due to allergies.

However, when I took my daughter to the doctor for a check up she told me to feed her eggs because she needs the protein.

Scrambled eggs would be easy to make... I just didn't think we were supposed to give it to them yet.

Quoting Ashleigh:

Peanut butter and rusks at 3 months? You shouldn't introduce any food to children until the age of 6 months old.

we thought this too, but our child was FTT and has been dealing with a fantastic dietitian, speech pathologists, pediatrician, child health nurse, OT and physio so we definately are very very informed on everything to do with babies. ours was put on solids at 3 months to help with weight gain. generally its preferable to wait til 4 months but it really just depends on the baby. at least we know for the next one that any time the baby is ready is fine. usually the signs are looking at food and watching the family eat, being hungry after bottles, wanting frequent bottles and they genereally have to have good head control and be able to sit up by  themselves. However ours was an exception she did not sit unassisted til 11 and a half months and her head was shaky til at least 6 months, so these requiremimes have to go out the window when it comes to a baby's health. the solids never helped her majority she still lost weight but it was better then nothing

you can start giving children eggs at the age of 1 (unless there is a concern for an allergy).

My doctor said anytime after a year. I started with a couple bites of scrambled egg to make sure she didn't have any reactions. Now she loves scrabbled eggs with a bit of cheese!

I was told children should have egg yolk and white before there 12/13 month injection just incase they were allergic to egg as this particular injection must contain egg. So 14 month is perfectly ok :)

Egg yolks are ok at 6 months, the whole egg is OK at one year.
My son loves scrambled eggs. But I don't give him eggs every day, we do every other day at the most.

I haven't started my youngest on eggs yet or peanut butter. We have just held off. We didn't give our oldest either until she was two b/c of ecsema and the dr. thought she may have food allergies associated with it. Our baby gets lots of protein from meat and beans and she is very healthy. I think it is person decision after the doc tells you that it is ok for your child

I just called my dr about this the other day. He said to start after a year, and the easiest thing to start with is scrambled. So Sat. I made him a scrambled egg, and he tried to put a huge handful in his mouth all at once, then spit it all out and fed it to the dogs!!! He ended up eating what was left on his plate, but it was the funniest look on his face...sometimes he's funny about new food textures!! :) We are still going to gicve him eggs every weekend, hopefully he'll eat more than the dogs from now on!

Yes you can feed your child eggs, I give my daughter eggs for breakfast with wheat bread and fruit. She needs the protien. Age one is the time you can start.
