My son usually nurses about 4 times a day, but then suddenly yesterday he nursed in the morning, and that was it. He hasn't nursed since! (I keep offering it to him, but he either screams and throws a fit or points and giggles at it!!) It is okay for him to me weaning himself, or should I start to supplement with formula now until he is a year old?

My daughter slowly weaned herself from 8-9 months. We had started to bottle feed once before bed and besides that she was nursing once in morning and once at lunch.

After two weeks she gave up the lunch feed with her own feeding through a sippy cup.

Then she started not wanting to nurse on my left side........then about a week later it was "sorry mom but I like the bottle better".

I was quite surprised, she has never expressed ANY interest in my boobs since mid January. I guess she had enough!!!

Good news :) He started nursing again today.  I tried it in a different position (with him sitting) and now he's nursing again!!  Thank you for all of your advice!

My son did this for a few days when he was 8months old, but it was because he was getting teeth in. I would not bother with a bottle at this point, he is old enough to have a sippy cup. You should definately keep offering your breast, but if it continues, talk to your pediatrician.

put some breast milk in his cup at every meal. He still needs to have breast milk or formula until he is 1 year old. You should ask your doctor how many ounces he needs every day.

Yah he drinks from a sippy cup no problem!  He eats alot of food too, at least 3 meals a day plus 2 snacks.

My little guy weaned himself between eight and nine months. He is just too busy to
take time for a full feed! He is on the go. He still will take a couple of bottles at night,
and does well with the Nuby sippy with the straw during the day. My daughter weaned herself at 10 months and refused the bottle, but did well with a sippy also. I still use formula until after they are a year, though.

Have you tried a sippy cup? My 9 month old takes a sippy cup when she is in highchair to eat. Does he eat solids? I know my daughter has really cut down on her formula since eating solids. If continues not to nurse you may need to call your doctor and see what they say.

Have you tried a bottle? How old is he? He hasn't been sick or started to come down with something. I would just try again or try the bottle and see what happens. If you wanted to keep him on breast milk you could just pump more instead. Good luck
