Lactose intolerance, next step after formula, and at what age?

My daughter is 14 months old and cannot have any dairy. I have been giving her Alimentum ( pre-digested formula ), but am starting to think she's getting too old for it. What else should I be giving since she can't have HOMO milk. Soy? Doesn't it produce ++gas? Rice milk? Not sure...Any suggestions?

Thanks you so much to you all, I really appreciate your response! I'll give Soy a go and see what happens, hopefully nothing. I'm definately going to try the yogurt as well, as Sophie really liked it before we found out she couldn't have it!

my son is allergic to dairy as well. he drinks Lactaid or whatever store brand of milk that is Lactose free. I use WIC so i get the Walmart brand. Greater Value Lactose Free Milk. The doctor said that milk is really good for him because it has more calcium in it than regular milk so you dont have to worry about putting them on a supplement to get the calcium they need.

My daughter had the same problem. You can try soy milk but it is equivalent to 2% milk in fat content. If you are feeding your child a balanced diet (lots of fruits and veggies, lean meats, etc) you might want to consider the Enfamil Prosobee Next Step formula. It has the extra fat content that toddlers need. It is expensive. My daughter also loves Oh Soy baby yogurt. It looks like glue but she loves it.

My daughter has a milk protein allergy and she could not tolerate HOMO milk either. We started her on soy milk and she has never had a problem with it. She loves the taste and it also comes in chocolate and vanilla.

my 14 month old, threw up breast milk and formula from day 1, he only stopped throwing up the formula when he started eating food. He's on soy now, I'm not sure if he's allergic to it or not, the next step would be rice milk, but they are both expensive. I was also contemplating putting him on goats milk.

He isn't gassy at all with the soy. He actually loves it. I get him the silk very vanilla extra fortified for kids. even my son whose almost 3 and can drink regular milk loves it.
