Mirena and preg test

[deleted account] ( 23 moms have responded )

Can Mirena give you a false negative pregnancy test? I've always gotten my periods every month like clockwork, I can pinpoint the day it will start. Then last month I missed..... I took a cheap preg test when I was about a week late and then again in 3 days. Both were negative. I should be getting my period again soon but don't feel like I am. I know Mirena can stop your periods but I've had mine 2yrs and always got them. Has this happened to anyone where because you had Mirena the test was negative even tho' you were pregnant?

I have had mirena since August of 2011. I have 2 beautiful girls. . My 2nd daughter was conceived while i was on the pill... immediately after i took the pregnancy test.. i stopped taking the pill.. But, since I started getting periods I have always been irregular.. I could bleed 2 times in one month and then skip 4-6 months.. when I got merina they warned me I would have heavier periods and get they should regulate.. well They never regulated and if I do bleed it's so light that if I use a tampon I can leave it in for up to 6 hours an still it's dry and hurts when I take it out only to see that there is only blood about the size of a marble and it will be like that for about a week sometimes 2.. but just recently I started feeling hungry non stop, I will eat.. and 20 minutes later I feel like I'm starving! like I haven't eaten in 2 days! Also I have been having a lot of discharge, and I feel bloated.. I recently started getting back into exercising and started doing the 30 day yoga challenge.. I am sore everywhere but it seems to me that my stomach has actually gotten bigger.. instead of loosing weight... also about a week ago I noticed my nipples were tender and sore.. and I feel dizzy and weak either during or after I excise.. I get achne break outs now more then I ever have before.. I feel sick and nauseous at random times mainly while in the car I feel tired all the time like I can barely get out of bed with out coffee, red bull, or monster and that will only last about half the day then I feel if I lay down anywhere my eyes will get so heavy and I'll just fall asleep so I avoid sitting or laying as much as possible, I feel like it would be silly to take a pregnancy.. do you think I should take a test just to be sure? Or could It just be the IUD if it is the IUD.. why didn't all of these symptoms come years ago? back in 2011?

I had my mirena placed in October of 2012. I have not had any complications with it. My periods lightened up like I was told would happen yet they did not stop. In December 2013 I did not have a period. I've done research about mirena in the past and have seen where it can trick you to have pregnacy sypmtoms. I've been on birth control since I was 16. I've been through the pill the ring and now mirena. I've had scares in the past with mirena, but this time it's different. Never pence have I missed a period. I've taken one at home test which came negative so I'm going to the dr for an actual test. If I am pregnant this will be my first child at 20. I took procautions but have figured out that my mirena does move out of place. If I'm not I am getting it removed and rethinking my form of birthcontrol. I'm not going to lie and say that I'm ready for a child but coming from a family of young mothers I've learned a few things and am not completely dumb founded when it comes to babies. But if anyone has some helpful not hurtful or judge mental advice that would be very much appreciated.

Like everyone is saying-everyone's body is different. I have had this IUD for 3 years now. Just like any other pre-menstrual issues I used to get before it (tender breast, moodiness, slight cramps) I get with the device. However, recently I have noticed more cramps ,but NOTHING like I was experiencing before taking bc pills. If you know anything about the female body, being on your cycle, ovulating/pms symptoms can go hand and hand with pregnancy symptoms. But as many have said, you have to know your body, listen to your body, and when YOU feel something is off or wrong, just get things checked out. This IUD isn't for everyone, I get that. But I haven't had any major issues as some have, thank God.

I've had my mirena since June. I had spotting for 3wks for the 1st 2 months and now no period. I did have some cramping and light spotting. I keep worrying that I'm pregnant. I'm not used to not having a period. So it's normal to not have a period when on mirena?

I just recently got Mirena. From what I've heard from others they either have very light periods or none at all. But if you have had yours for two years and never missed a period the best thing you do is go to your Doc. Always better to be safe :) I'm pretty new since i had it placed two weeks ago..

I had my IUD for 11 months before I found out I was pregnant. I had it removed when I was six weeks pregnant in november and I'm expecting a baby girl in july. But I also had a neg result on preg test but the blood draw came back positive.

[deleted account]

called my doc office and talked to nurse... she said she didnt think it was pregnancy and that if the home tests come back neg. then not to worry. I had taken 3 tests before I got a positive one with my previous child, so I will probably just take another one soon to make sure. So, Kerry, did you have positive home tests? or did you just go to the doc to begin with? I'm out of state right now for a month and the nurse told me to just come in whenever I get back if I want....

I have had mine almost two years and I haven't had a period with it since the second month after i got until a month and i thought something was wrong because i was cramping so bad ( i haven't had cramps till then either) I called my doctor and the nurse told me that things like that can happen so I would just ask your doctor if you don't get one soon.

The only way to know for sure is if you go to your doctors and get a blood test. I had the Mirena for over a year when I found out that I was pregnant. I am now 6 months ecpecting my baby girl in june.

Mirena IUDs will not interfere with a positive pregnancy test. The hormone detected is made by the products of conception (embryo, yolk sac, etc.) and is not affected by the progesterone in the IUD. A blood test detects the exact same hormone, just at slightly lower levels. By now, the hormone would be detectable in urine, especially the first void of the morning. If you're concerned about not having your period, go see your doctor. I'd wait another month or two to see if it returns, though.

go to your doctor and have a blood test done. That is the best way to find out for sure. I have the mirena for 9 months now and I did't have a period for 2 of those months. I thought I was pregnant and I was having all the syptoms. I kept taking pregnancy test but they would all say negative so I went to the doctor and had a blood test done and it came back negative. Turns out that all the symptoms I was having was PMS and hyperthyroidism(which I didn't develop until getting the mirena).
