MMR immnunisation?????? Not sure what to do please help

i have had 5 children and all mine have had the mmr and all mine have been fine after they have had it so kids have reactions to some jabs thats why they say stay for about 10 min. hope this helps

I would say go and get it done as i was unlucky. my eldest was ill so was unable to have the MMR jab and sadly she ended up in hospital because she got chicken pox and 2 days after them going she got the measles really badly and was very ill,and i believe had she been well and had the jab she wouldnt have got them. Them crying it always seems worse than what it actually is you know what its like to have jabs it does sting but its over in a flash so dont worry about it it is all worth while even if you feel guilty its better safe than sorry. and all kids are a little groggy a day or so after but thats how its meant to be so dont worry.

both of my girls are fully vaccinated including the mmr my oldest has had both doses at 1yr and again at 5yrs and my toddler had hersat 1yr and is fine no reaction at all from either girl

I have 2 fully vaccinated girls including the mmr and both are fine my oldest had a slight fever with the first dose and nothing with her bosster mmr and my youngest had no reaction at all

This issue has been majorly over-hyped. Read the information available, talk with the professionals and read the scientific research and you will be reassured , the consequences of your child getting any of these diseases could be far more serious!!! I am a health professional with a scientific background and I have had my daughter immunized and will do the same with all future kids. All the best x

My DD hasn't had her MMR b/c the LAST set of shots she got at 4mo. old, she took a "GrandMal Seizure" that nite & has been taking "Simple Partial" seizures ever since so she's not up to date on her vaccinations.. She had an appointment with her Neurologist last week & her Neurologist @ Children's Hosp. of Pittsburgh said they've been seeing A LOT of cases of the Measles comming in there, and a lot of cases of the Whooping Cough.. She told me that my DD should DEF. get her shots with her weaker immune system shes even more suseptable than the avg. baby SO - for us to get her up to date on her shots & just give her an extra dose of her anti-seizure medication on the day(s) she gets those vaccinations..



So I guess the next one Rowan is up for is the MMR & I guess I'm gonna get it done in 2weeks or so...but I'm TERRIFFIED b/c her seizures are quite scary ya know? So thats whats going on with MY April'08 baby girl :)

Hi all ..well i live in South Africa and there is no way my babe will be without all of his vaccinations even the very expensive Prevenar which is against all the pheumocal infections including ear infections. Looking at the cost which is R650 per injection x 4 injections its very pricy...but I would rather be safe than sorry. All of you with girls must also look into the cervical cancer vac for when your little girl is older ... Matthew had his MMR at about a year and had a slight rash but nothing that bothered his sleeping / eating pattern.
Good luck all just remember they would not invent these things if they did not think it was a good idea.

I'm waiting as long as possible to get the MMR for my son and not just because I'm paranoid about all the links to various issues, including autism. My oldest son is 14 and has autism so the MMR scares me to death. I wasn't as concerned with my daughter since autism is much less prevalent in females.

My son got the MMR at 13 months. He was fine afterward, no reaction. The dr. was going to give it to him at his 12 month appointment along with two others I believe. I was paranoid so I asked him to just do the two shots at the 12 month appointment and then do the MMR a month or two later. I've done that with all of his shots though, two at a visit. Not sure if we've benefited from that or not, it does mean more trips to the doctor to see my son cry. But I didn't like the idea of him getting so many vaccines at one time.

My son got the MMR and he is fine! He did get a rash that my mom said looked like measles, but it didn't bother him as much as it bothered me. He had a little fever. Overall, I think it is so important to get the vaccines than what could happen if they didn't get it!

I'm glad to hear that so many of you decided to have your children immunized. I worked for a pediatrician for many years. My doctor was totally pro vaccines. There is so much information out there that you can walk away from it all with more questions than when you started out researching. I have 3 children, and all 3 have been fully immunized and I don't regret it. There is really nothing to fear, except for maybe hearing your baby's hurt cry. And in the long run, the more of us that are immunized the better chance that some crazy pandemic won't break out. And it also saves that one child who unfortunately wasn't for whatever reason.

And yes, it is very difficult to find the MMR separate. I don't think any manufacturer in the US or Europe produces them. It is a myth about the separate vaccines having less preservatives. You get the same amount of preservative in the combined vaccine as you would in one of the separate vaccines. It's always best to go by your pediatrician's vaccine schedule and not be so anxious to spread the vaccines out. You're a team trying to achieve the same goal; a healthy child.

Both of my kids are completely vaccinated and we've never ever had any side effects. I guess my thoughts are would you like your child to suffer a slight fever or run the risk of infection from one of these diseases? I know there are people that hear the horror stories of vaccinations that go bad. Best bet is to talk to your family doctor or someone involved in communicable diseases and get fully informed before deciding whether or not to vaccinate.

Hello everyone, I'm in the UK not the states but thought i'd chip in anyways :)

My son had his MMR just over a week ago (he's now 14mths old) and they did give me an advice sheet saying that since it is a "live" vaccine that they can get a rash or slight swelling but it wouldn't progress to the full disease.

He's been fine but has developed a cough & cold but this might not necessarily be the vaccines - just British weather lol

I personally believe that if it's there then go for it as the measles are doing the rounds again since so many ppl are choosing not to vaccinate.

My nephew actually had the regular MMR. Sorry I didn't make that clear. The doctor I saw who said that you could get the three individual shots was Dr. Roison(I think that's how you spell it) of the Cleveland Clinic. He said that you would need to ask for it in advance but that it was possible to get it that way. Since he's in the states, I'm assuming that you can, but haven't asked for it personally. He also mentioned giving your child liquid vitamins for infants to make sure that they aren't deficient in anything. If I can find out more specific info I'll pass that along.

Erin, your sister-in-law was able to get the individual shots?  I had heard only one of them was available individually, I think it was mumps....  The US manufacturer does not make all three as  individual shots any more.  According to Dr. Sears, the manufacturer is going to start making the individual shots available, but it wouldn't be available for a few years.   Please let me know....

Well my daughter had the MMR shot like 2 weeks ago and it was not good. She was fine after it was done but she ended up gettin German Measles(Rubella). She also had a febrile seizure, which is caused from high fevers, she got an ear infection, and had a fever for almost a week. It was not too good. Im jus thankful she didnt get the rash along with it.

I think it is really important for us all to get our kids immunised, just think how bad you would feel if your little one had caught something nasty before they were old enough for the jabs because of the high levels of disease circulating.

Little ones are only safe if we all do our bit and get them immunised. I also think we are so lucky to have the availability to protect our hildren some mums in poor parts of the world don't have a choice and would give their right arms to protect their little one.

All my nephews, neices and godchildren have had it with no problems at all

My daughter (13months) had hers a few days ago, and has been fine - no temperature, no illness etc. She has been a bit 'grizzly' but I think thats more to do with the heat lately. I know there are loads of horror stories about this, but in my personal opinion the risk of these diseases FAR outweigh any 'side-effects'. Its easy to say I know, but millions of kids have this each day and are fine. You can ask for the vaccine to be given in three separate shots, but I think you have to go private or pay in the UK for that. I really do think that the benefits of this jab and the horrible illnesses it helps to prevent or ease is worthwhile, but like I said its my own opinion. She hasn't had the second jab yet obviously, but with the first I can only tell you that Kacey has had it and is doing great, as I'm sure your daughter will!! Hope you feel better :-)

My 13 month old had his at his one year well baby and he's fine. My biggest concern with vaccines is the number that they give at one time. I don't like to give more than 2 at a time. He was also due for the chicken pox one, but since the MMR is 3 vaccines in one, I'm waiting until he's 15 months to do the chicken pox one.

MMR has been around for at least 40 years (I had it as a kid)...I feel better about that than I do about the chicken pox vaccine (which I really find unnecessary...but I'm doing it).

I think that there has been so much fear surrounding the MMR shot, that we lose sight of its usefulness. My pediatrician waits until 15 months to give the MMR. My twins are 13 months - so haven't got it yet- but after much thought and careful consideration, I will be giving my kids the MMR. I have heard that you can ask for the shots to be given as 3 separate shots at the same time instead of just the combo shot. Apparently there are less preservatives in the individual shots. It will mean more shots for baby though. My sister-in-laws 12 month old just had it with no problems. A doctor I saw on tv talking about shots for infants said that it's good that they have a plenty of sleep the night before and that they should be well hydrated before they get their shots. Also, treat symptoms quickly to ease any further complication, i.e. don't let them have a high fever without giving tylenol or the like. His advice made sense to me so I'm going to follow it for their next round of shots.

You always have the choice to postpone her vaccine. You can also exempt out if your state allows this-not all do the philosophical exemptions. One thing you can do is go to a health food store, not GNC, but one that has homeopathic remedies. Talk to the owner and ask for a vaccine detox. They are drops that you place in babies mouth. Usually start an hour b/4 dr. visit, and continue afterwards. I took my son in for a tetnus shot (his finger got run over in the bike chain & hospital didn't have pediatric tetnus), and he got the DPT. He immediatly had a knot the size of my fist on his leg. It hurt so bad he couldn't walk. The crying was awful. I went to get this stuff, and within 6 hours, he was out running around. You never knew he got that vaccine. Measles, Mumps, and Ruebella are childhood diseases that we have survived through. If she gets any of these, there are treatments. With boys, you have to be careful with mumps because it can cause sterility. My brother was blessed with two kids and me and my husband with four, and we all had the mumps.

I think its definately better to have the vaccination than not to. The vaccinations are alot safer these days and you see the people that dont get these vaccinations can get quite sick from these illnesses later in life. My hubby got german measels when I was six weeks pregnant...HUGE scare. Fortunately I was vaccinated and had built a resistance to the virus and therefore did not contract the measels. I shudder to think of the alternative...I probably would not have my beautiful little girl in my life right now!

Here is my opion, take it or leave it.:) The MMR has been around for a lot longer than some of the other vaccinations our kids have to get, so I'm actually more comfortable with it than the Hep B. My daughter had hers and had no negative reaction to the vaccine. If you're uncomfotable with the combination you can split them into three seperate vaccinations rather than doing the combo that is so popular.

I know that I'm going to have a ton of Moms telling me how awful I am, but I did give my son the MMR. He was fine. He cried for like 10 seconds when they gave it to him and he was done. He didn't get sick or tired or have any kind of reaction. My husband and I both work in a place where there are a TON of dieseses, and we constantly have people we work with who aren't vaccinated and DO have these diseases. It would be irresponsible for us to not get him immunized, and you would be surprised by the people that do have or carry these preventable diseases. I do kind of think this issue has been hyped up a little bit more then it should have been.
