Has anyone ever heard of someone getting post partum depression when your child is 1? I haven't had any of these feelings til now, so I don't know if I missed the signs earlier or not but it has gotten real hard to even get out of bed!

I know the feeling, I felt the same way with my little girl. shortly before she turned 1, I got to the point where I didn't want anything to do with her much and still have that feeling sometimes. I believe it's just stress and being a single mother I am around her 24/7 except when I am at work. Usually what I will do is when I start having those feelings, I will ask a relative to watch my daughter for a few hours or so and just go spend that time on me and just relaxing and by the time I see my daughter again, I am excited and happy again

i dont know if i have this or not i got told i had some issues with it just after my daughter was born, now she turns one today and i find myself wanting to cry when she cries not being able to deal with her, i lie on the couch crying for hours just hoping that she stays happy on the floor by herself and i wait for my partner to get home every day just so i can get some me time to go hang out the washing or whatever. not sure if theres anything wrong or if its just being around my daughter 24/7 for a whole 12 months. anyway maybe you should think about seeing you doc?

the only real difference between symptoms of regular old depression and post- partum depression is timing. It's good to recognize it. I've known people who spend years convinced they have some horrible medical condition so that diagnosis & treatment of their depression takes years. that said, you should have your doctor check your thyroid function, check you for anemia, and check for a few other things that can cause symptoms like depression, and question you in a way that should help determine whether or not this can be considered post-partum (expected to pass over time, worrisome for recurrence after future pregnancies with worsening). Depression for different people responds to different treatments - meds, exersize, therapy. It can actually be dangerous to leave depression untreated.
