I want to start into cloth diapers and I was wondering of the families that use them, what brand do you swear by being the greatest? They are a bit expensive to start and I want to get a brand that actually works.

I switched Henry to cloth when he was about 5 months old and I haven't regretted it one single time. I think you'll really enjoy it. It feels very good to me to provide for my baby in one more way. (I got scared when finding those diaper gel crystals on his skin sometimes...)

But I also learned that I didn't have to stick to just one brand or kind of diaper. When I was first investigating I bought many different types and the only one I've really hated that I hardly ever use is Happy Heinys. That one is real ugly, doesn't fit well (leaves lots of red marks), and seems more cheaply made.

The ones I love are: bumGenius 3.0 pocket diapers, Fuzzi Bunz pocket diaper, bumkins all in ones, kushies all in ones, and regular old chinese or indan prefolds with various covers, like Nikky, bummis super whisper wrap, and thirsties. Of all these, the bumGenius 3.0 are the best, the easiest, and in my mind the most economical because they are a one size diaper that is supposed to fit to 30 pounds or more.

I like having all different types, brands and styles of diapers, so if you buy a few different types to try them out, don't feel like you have to "settle" on just one. You may want to buy several.

I buy from work at home mamas! They all work just fine and don't cost nearly as much as name brand. Check out ebay and Etsy.com
I prefer to use fitted diapers.

I am using Motherease - I started with just the plain unbleached motherease.. but recently got some of the Sandy's Bamboo which I really like. I like them because they are easy to wash and dry easily. I try to line dry whenever possible because the sun bleaches the heck out of the diaper without any bleach. They are also reasonably priced. Never had a leak yet. The covers both the Reiki, and the one with snaps are very well designed and seem to breath.
I put the used diapers in a bucket of water with a few drops of tea tree oil. This seems to be working for us.
When I started I got a sampler pack and then ordered a couple of extra that others had suggested.

We use the Bumgenius 3.0's, too. I am very happy with them. Occasionsally, we get a leak, but nothing to difficult to handle. They used to get stinky when we started using them, but now they have no odor. I do rinse them once or twice before washing and a couple times after washing.

I love my cloth diapers. I have used them on my daughter since she was a month old. At first we used Kushies all in ones because that was all that was available in our small city and they work alright. They are showing wear and won't last for another kid. I wouldn't buy them again. We also use Bumgenius 3.0's and I love them.  We use them at night with no leaks.  I find that they have a tendancy to get a bit stinky but stripping them gets rid of the smell.  I never had a problem with stink when it was warm out because I would leave them out in the sun all day but it's kind of hard to do in -40 Celsius weather!!! Good luck with the cloth diapering, I'm glad we made the switch!
