Terrible Teether!

[deleted account] ( 3 moms have responded )

My 16 month old son has just been working on getting his 1 yr. molers. He screams randomly throughout the day, has diahrea about 3 times daily, bangs his mouth on furniture, drools like crazy to the point where I have to take a washcloth everywhere he goes to wipe off puddles of saliva, and loses his appetite for food and will not eat a single thing at meal times about every other day. He likes to chomp on cold baby carrots, freezies, ice cold cloths, and whatever else he can chew to help hiis gums feel better, but it doesn't seem to help very much. I thought the crazy teething symptoms would go away after the front 8 teeth were out! What can I do so we can stay sane with the pain I can tell he's feeling? I don't believe that medicating constantly is good either and the homopathic teething tablets do nothing. AAAHHHH! My poor Baby!

If you see this, leave this form field blank.

My son is also 16 months old and getting his 1yr molars. It seems like this process is taking forever!! His bottom two are in and now he's working on the top. He does pretty well during the day, but starts getting cranky towards the evening. And overnight is our worst time. I am wondering if anyone else can relate? He wakes up crying/screaming and the only thing that seems to comfort him is if I take him into bed with me. Even then he doesn't always go back to sleep. Sometimes I give him tylenol or motrin before bed, but those nights don't really have any different pattern. If I let him cry, he nearly makes himself sick. If I just go into his room and try to comfort him and leave, it doesn't work. But I also don't want to be creating a bad habit by always taking him into bed with me. Are you having any similar problems? I really hope this molar thing ends soon!!

Hi Barb,
I Know exactly how you feel, my boy is 16 months too and the poor thing is suffering big time with the molar teeth coming in! He's always suffered with his teeth coming in...between diahorea and face rash, to infections (ears and tonsils) and even a stay in hospital when his top 2 came in.
I agree with you with the not medicating all the time...and yes the homopathic tablets are useless for my Roan also.
I , like you, give him cold veg and fruit. He tries really hard to be in good form but sometimes it gets the better of him and can get quite cross...which is really not his form and we're a little surprised to see him screaming crying when normally he is so sweet and happy - the poor little things, hopefully the teeth won't take too long to come in.
it's also awful hearing him whimpering in his sleep - poor baba.

Hi Catriona, Thanks for that, cause I have so many people around me that either don't know what I'm doing when I'Il say he's acting that way cause his teeth are coming in, cause they've all had kids that have no problem teething and they hardly even noticed any symptoms! Your little guy really had a tough time, wow! Then my son is still good, cause we've never had to got to the doctor about it, or a hospital saty! It's so tough for a mom to see your baby go thru pian! No rashes yet, for us it's more an emotional affect cause we all get moody around the house when baby is having a bad day! I gues we just have to wait it out, it will end! We need to remind ourselves of that periodacally! Thanks!
