daughter wakes up to the slightest sound

My 18 month old daughter will wake up to the slightest noise, if I check on her she will wake if the floor makes the lightest creak. She has been like this since 4-5 months, she woke to a piece of cardboard packaging falling to the carpeted floor outside her closed bedroom door. She was always in the living room or in the car for naps and when ever she slept as a newborn/infant (I didn't like her being a way upstairs so far away when she was so new) so there was constantly noises ie tv, radio, dogs barking, us talking etc. so I just don't understand why she is such a light sleeper and can't find peace. She doesn't have any sound in her room now, could that be the problem, too silent?

Thanks for the tip...I have been leaving the tv on in her room as she is sleeping, and that seems to be helping. Thanks for the sound machine tip though, I will def keep that in mind, if this stops working.

She could just be a light sleeper. My daughter has always been a very good sleeper. I think it could be because at my baby shower I recieved a noise machine. It makes all differnt sounds like ocean waves, birds, ect. I've always put it on white noise. Maybe something like that may help. It would drown out some background noise. It might take time though for her to get use to it, since this will create another noise for her. Good luck.
