Maternity Photos

I am 28 weeks pregnant with my first child and really want to capture this time with some maternity photos. Only thing is, my husband & I are really pinching pennies to go towards "necessities." I've researched Michigan photographers & a lot are really expensive: sitting fees costing $500 (and that doesn't include any proofs!) Plus, how do I know I'll feel comfortable at such an intimate and exposed moment with a stranger. I thought of having my sister take the photos, but I wonder if I should stick with a professional. Any suggestions?

Students are a great idea as they really are trying to build their portfolio. I have a friend who has been assisting a photographer for months now and needed maternity pics for her portfolio. I am 8 1/2 mos along and was nervous even though I knew her, but after 5 minutes I was comfortable, it wasn't bad at all, actually fun! If your sister or a friend has a decent camera, you can still pull it off. A friend of mine had her cousin do hers and they are beautiful (her cousin is not a professional). Good luck! I love mine, it is so worth it and such a great thing to have :)

Do any colleges near you offer photography courses? There'd probably be students wanting to get experience and shots for their portfolio so you might get a bargain. You could always ask your partner or female friend to be with you if you were worried about feeling uncomfortable. x
