What are your thoughts on names, do you share them with people or do you wait untill the little one is here to reveal? And if your willing to share, how did you come up with your name? Heirloom name that runs in the family? It rhymed? Because the initials spell out something clever?

I believe that it is very empowering for a child to have a name that they like.My deal with my son(who we had named "Justin") was always this; You may choose a name (or word or sound) for your own,and if after using it as your name for one year, you want to make it official,we will file a legal name change for you.For the past 27 years,he has been 'River',and he continues to really like his name.

We are having our 3rd, pretty sure its a girl.  At the time of the ultrasound the only name we agreed on was Karter for a boy.  Well, when we were told it is most likely a girl my husband said lets name her Karter, i liked it.  He said later he was kidding but when i got home i wrote KARTER ABIGAIL ALEXIS on a paper and we both decided that it fit.  We are going with a K because our 1st is KAROLYN GABRIELLE GRACE (Karolyn after his mother who passed away) our 2nd is KAMRYN ISABELLE MACY(no special reason we just liked it).  If our 1st wasn't named Karolyn they would have been Gabrielle and Isabelle, i always loved those names.  I know Karter for a girl is a litlle different but I think it will work, and if by some small miracle it turns out to be a boy the name will be Karter Kieran Malikai (no special reason, i just really like those names)

It took us forever to agree on a girl name.  When we found out that we were having a girl the name surprisingly came quick.  We decided on Piper Grace.  Piper is after Pastor John Piper of Desiring God Ministries.  Our boy name that we will have to wait to use someday was Asher Blake.  Asher from the Bible and Blake is my husbands middle name, although it is what he goes by.

My husband and I argued about boys names and since thats all we have and am going to have he finally let me have the name I always wanted to name a boy.  Taylor Christian!!  We have always told everyone.  The other names we came up with had middle names that were family names but we just went through a million baby name books.

We are really only telling people the name if they ask. My husband came up with the name (Donovan) sort of after a player on his NFL team. I chose Van for short, rather than Don or Donny for something a little different. The middle name was easy...using my dad's, brother, husband, and father-in-law's middle name...haha which made it easy this time around:)

I have very conflicting opinions on naming our kids. On the one hand, I want the first name to be familiar enough that the "average joe" won't have trouble pronouncing or spelling it, but on the other, I want it to be uncommon enough that our kids are the only one in their class with that name. Our first two are Roman Andrew and Vincent James (I know Vincent is common in some areas but not here) and our little girl currently cooking will be Laurel Ann. On middle names, we like to honor people who are important to us; James is dh's grandfather and Ann was my mom's (who just passed away) middle name.

we have been settled on Kaitlyn for a girl and Denan for a boy from the beggining but now it's getting closer. i am liking a few other girls names. Kayla and Kelsea are the 2 sticking out atm. Denan came from a nrl player over here. he isn't a huge name, but we just heard it and liked it. we have decided to go with family names for middle names so we are keeping ann for a girl and antony for a boy which is our middle names. we have told a couple of ppl if they ask and ppl have generally been fairly good re: our choices. i figure, ultimately it is OUR choice and OUR child not theirs so if they don't like it... LUMP IT!!!

My husband and I decided when dating that if we had a boy first he would be able to pick out the name and if it was a girl first I would be able to pick out the name. We're having a boy so my hubby won. All his life he said he REALLY liked the name Nathanial Lee. I've always wanted two middle names for our kids. My hubby is a II (Jr.) and I don't want a III so we're using his first and middle name as our son's 2 middle names. So it's going to be Nathanial Kenneth Lee.

I'm on baby #5 (a girl) and my husband and I haven't decided on a name. I like Madelyn and he hates it. We also have Kayla and Mya picked out. No matter what, I told him that I wanted Grace as the middle name because that was my Grandmother's middle name. It's weird because with our daughter (baby #4) we had her name picked out before she was even conceived and we told the whole family. This time around we haven't said a whole lot to our families just our co-workers.

My husband and I want a big family so we have 5 boy names and 6 girl names picked out. Even with all those names we still feel like we won't know for sure until the baby is born. We'll see if any of them stick! Lots a really great names shared on here. We have told a couple people but with mixed results. We both really wanted unique names but also some family names thrown in too so for boys we have:

Jack Stephen

Asa Michael

Barend Vaughn (we would call him Vaughn)

Tai Cooper

Quinn Weston

and for girls:

Zoe Jacqueline

Piper Kay

Riley Mae

Daphne Vivian

Willow Marie

Veda Jane

Once we decide on a name we share it with our close friends and family. We didn't get any weird responses, but I have friends who were told things like "oh really, your going to name him that", or "well isn't that an interesting name". Some people are rude and opinionated, but I say who cares. How we picked our names. We like the idea of family names for middle names and any thing goes for the first name. We're really into the meaning of names. My first one is Lucas Owen. Lucas means the same thing as my husbands name (Aaron) "Bearer of Light" and at the time we hadn't met any Lucas'. The whole time I was pregnant I kept having all these war dreams, apocalyptic type stuff and Owen means "mighty warrior", plus it's my mother in law's maiden name and she passed away a while ago so we did it to honor her too. My second one is Isaac James. Isaac means laughter and it totally fits, this kid is a riot. Mostly we picked it because we liked the sound of it and again we don't know any Isaac's. James is a family name, my dad's, my grandpa's, my brother, my husbands grandpa, and so on. This baby is Abigail, which was never a name on any of our lists. She was a surprise and before I got pregnant I kept having all these pregnant dreams and then a dream that I delivered a baby girl and in the dream we named her Abigail. About three weeks later I found out I was pregnant and then when we found at it was a girl we figured God was telling us something, plus it means "Joy" or " Her father's Joy"which seems sweet. No middle name yet, but maybe Rose ,which again is a family name.
P.S. we love the Beetle's too and when we had our "first babies", the dogs, we wanted to name one of them Eleanore, but decided it was too many syllables and too pretty of a name for a dog, so we named her Rigby instead which was so fitting. The other one got the name Penny (Lane) because she was kind of copper colored.

With my first two we had family names for the middle name & picked the first to go with it (well my husband actually did) We did tell everyone before hand at family events. With this one we know it is a boy but haven't really talked about names yet but don't plan on telling anyone until he mades his arrival.

Im not a trekkie but big into anime and video gamer (as well as my husband) were big fans of thinking outside the box. Im having proplems trying to find a name that will top off Rayne. I just dont think I can do it lol. I really love Ryker but my sister in law keeps telling me that if I would name our son that she will only think of the prison (wich I never heard of) and bad shower sceans lol. Im in Love with Axton very much and still trying to convince my hubby that thats gonna be his sons name weather or not he likes it. And Eleanor is a very beautiful name as well. im digging the old fashion names making a comeback! good luck and congrats on the 7 year blessing. being pregnant has been the greatest and most rewarding time of my life.

With my first I told everyone the names we liked but I found that some people got really weird in a hard to explain way and made me feel uncomfortable. I then began only telling a few people the names and telling the rest of the masses that we weren't really sure. This time I am not set on names like I was last time so I just throw out a couple that I like. Its nice cause I'm not lying to anyone this time :). I think that which ever way you choose to do it should be fine with everyone else.

I dont mind sharing the names I like with family and friends but we didnt and dont plan on telling them the final name till baby is born. since we know the sex we decited that we should leave something a mystery. but I love uncommon and unusual names. I dont want another child to have my kids name when there in school. I dont want the teacher to say there name and 10 kids respond. Our Daughters name is Rayne (named after a video game) were huge gamers and we love Axton, Ryker, Mathias, Malaki, Teague for our futue son. as for a middle name I told my husband he could have it Peter wish is his name or it will be another from our list.

Hi! I personally do not share names with anyone. I wait till the baby is born and it is named. How do I come up with names...a few ways, baby books and naming websites. When I see names I give it thought...One of my children I named after a nickname I give to all my children. I always called the older two "My pretty." So when the third one came along I thought that would be a fine name for a girl...Mia Bella is her first name.

We have no problem talking to people about names. We will not find out the sex of our bub and did not either for the first one.

My husband and I are both teachers and trying to come up with a name that does not reflect a dodgy kid we have taught is really hard. But we teach at International Schools and rare names are also pretty common and great for us.

Our first was born at 36 weeks and was so not expected and we ended up choosing Lachlan ()Students in Grade 3 have been participating in cooperative games and swimming units and have been refining their manipulation skills (throwing and catching) in Physical Education through the introduction of the sport of team handball. Exploration of a range of gymnastics skills and Mission Impossible participation has also taken place in PE this semester (pronounced locklan) for him. It was not at all on our list but we needed to make a decision and that was it. His middle name is Allen which is my maiden name.

If we were going to have a girl we really like Chloe Louise. Just a pretty first name and Louise is my sister's middle name.

This time around, we are also not finding out what we are having but like the names Zachary, Cooper and Cameron. For girls we still like Chloe, Lucy and Alexis. Who knows what we'll end up with though.

We have had our names picked out for seven years so there wasnt alot of thought put into chosing, or arguement for that matter! We did not tell anyone the name we had chosen until we found out that we were pregnant, then we were so happy ( after trying for seven years) that we couldnt contain it any longer. Our daughter will be named Eleanor Louise Marie. Eleanore for three reasons: The Beatles, both of us love the Beatles and so sticking with the song Eleanore Rigby; after Eleanore Roosevelt and lastly after Eleanore of Aqutaine which bot are strong prominent women in history! We chose Louise after her grandma and Marie is a family tradition that stems back eight generations of first daughters being named Marie (my family is English). So whats your story???
