Hey April Mommies!
My son was born on April 27th. We've had a tough time with the solid food. HE's a big eater, but he has issues with textures, he gags on liquid tylenol if I don't mix it with water, for example. He likes applesauce and pears and carrots, but he doesn't really eat much of it. I offer them three times a day, but he isn't very interested and still mainly goes for the bottle (i've been putting cereal in his bottle for awhile because of bad reflux). He has no problems with weight (was born 9lbs, 7oz and is still in the 90%). Does anybody have any tricks to help get him more interested in solids? I offer fruits/ veggies 2-3x daily mixed with cereal as per our ped. Thanks and I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving (he did NOT like sweet potatoes, lol)

It could be the food you are using, being economical I chose to feed my daughter the Walmart brand baby food and it was like pulling teeth to get her to eat it unless I mixed it with alot of fruit. We switched to the heinz organic foods and she scarfs them down and is now eating the chunky foods. We gag a little at the very begining because she forgets to chew but other than that she loves her food now. Also if the rice cereal isn't your childs thing try the oatmeal my daughter will spit the rice cereal out at you but loves the flavor of the oatmeal so just a few thoughts hope is helps

My son is doing really well with baby foods. He loves his veggies especially sweet potatoes and squash. He is having a issue with the fruits but I just keep offering it to him. And I have been doing less bottles he only has 3 bottles during the day. But my pediatrician did say that if he didn't want to eat solids just yet that it was ok because he is getting all of the nutrients he needs from his formula. So my advice would be to just keep trying.

My son did the same thing until I realized he was REALLY curious what I was eating for lunch. I sat him on my lap, poured a little baby food on my plate, even used a "big kid spoon" for him, and took my own bites in between feeding him small bites of baby food. Ever since then he has eaten baby food just fine, with a few grossed out faces.

my son has no issues eating solid foods. He is not fond of jar baby food (other than fruits) and pulls all kinds of funny faces, but still eats it. Have you ever tasted that stuff? It's horrible. Try making food yourself and maybe he will be a little more interested in it.

I know how you feel, my son will eat his baby food, but ALWAYS gags. I'm glad you asked this question because I'd like to take some answers

We put our daughter in her high chair, pull it up to the table and she can't help herself she just sooooo much wants to be a part of family meal time. She scoffs food down, particularly thrilled with food that comes of our plates, gags a bit but we are getting used to it...
I tend to mash before I give her food. Sometimes she plays with it on the high chair tray and just loves that. If she doesn't eat, ah well there is another meal time in a few hours. I don't mix any food, I offer a variety but don't mix things.
She will not eat banana...
Don't worry, I think these babies work these things out in their own time.

My Son was also born on April 27th!!!! He also has bad reflux but i make his fruits and veggies myself and he seems to love them. Try not mixing them with cereal because Spencer seems to like the foods better without cereal. give him cereal by itself once a day before bedtime. we also mixed his veggies together(after we knew he wasnt allergic) seems crazy but if he likes pears then mix his pears with sweet pot or green beans and applesauce. I know it seems crazy but Spencer ate stuff a lot better when i mixed it together and without cereal. If you have something thats thick add a little water to make it runny or a little juice.

My son was born April 27th too! :) He still makes faces at certain foods and spits some back up. But I just keep working with him. That's my only advice to you. Sounds like you are doing all the right things, he will come around. Good luck:)

You don't have to worry that he don;t eat that kind of food, my daughter is also 7 months and in the beginning she did not like the solid food. i went with her to the docter, but the doc says its not a problem, if she 's taking her bottle 5 times a day its ok, he advise me to wait until the baby have allot of hungry he will take the solid food.
btw this week my daughter began to eat the solid food very well

My son has reflux too so we also put some cereal in his ormula. He gags at everything we feed him the first 5 - 10 times or so but the more he eats things the more he is willing to eat. He's not crazy about fruit or strongly favored foods still but he is getting better with them.

My baby is doing OK with solids, but a lot of times will just take a couple bites and quit. The other day he was with daddy all day while I was working, and he barely drank any milk in my absence (which he sometimes does.) When his dad offered him some apple, he hungrily scarfed the whole thing down and still wanted more! I think the key is they need to be hungry!

Less milk more solids. How many bottles a day does he have. My girl (same age) only has three breast feeds a day and three big meals a day.

just keep trying =) my son still gags on certain foods that are too thick but he has gotten better at swallowing, sometimes it just takes them a while to understand how to swallow different textures. I read about another little boy who was referred to a feeding therapist for "texture therapy"? idk much about it but i read that babies who suffered from reflux/GERD were more likely to have issues swallowing and with different textures. You are the best judge of if it's a serious problem or if he's just not ready to try yet but you may want to research the texture/feeding therapy if it gets worse? good luck

my oldest daughter was the same way. i wouldnt put it in his bottle, that is just my thoughts. i would do just what you are doing, he will eventually start eating. like my mom always told me a kid wont starve themselves. back to my daughter, she is still a very picky eater but she did come around to eating. good luck oh by the way his doctor does know about this right? maybe he can check his swallow reflex to see if that is why he is gagging
