My daughter turned 1 year on April 10th , I've breast fed her since her first day of life. I love the bonding but now she has 8 teeth & i think its about time i stop with the breast feeding then. I honestly think I did really good being as though Im 18 & i was in school. I tried her on 2% milk & she REFUSED! i've been trying to ease it to her but still she refuses. How did you guys ween & start on whole milk?

My daughter has been breastfed only since she was born. She never even had a bottle. She loves water in her sippy cup but not milk (breast or whole). My doc said she didn't need to drink milk if she was getting calcium in other places like dairy or calcium rich veggies. She loves cheese and yogurt. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Kudos to you young mother for breastfeeding so long. I wish other young mothers would do the same.
My son is 13 months and I continue to breastfeed and give him vanilla soy milk in a sippy cup. Surprisingly soy milk taste a lot like breast milk. Your baby might like it. Hope that helps.

My daughter turned one on April 15, and I started adding an ounce of WHole milk to the breast milk for a week, then the next week add 2 ounces and so on until it's all whole milk. We haven't had any issues! She wolfs it down! I tried it alone in a sippy cup but she wasn't interested, but I think because it was cold. Going to try to warm it a bit then put it in the sippy cup!Good luck!

I have the same battle and found the replys very helpful. My daughter is an exclusively breastfed baby- turned one on the 14th April and she has refused any other milk.....she doesn't take the bottle as i'm a stay home mum....she only drinks water from the bottle and doesn't suck...she squeezes the tit so that the water pours into her mouth.....was at the verge of giving up!

since she takes a bottle try mixing breastmilk with whole milk a little at a time. gradually work it up to only whole milk. over a weeks time is what my dr. suggested. Congrats on going a whole year!

I actually gave my 12mth old formula initially in a sipper cup it is sweeter than milk and then gradually changed over. Breast milk is super sweet so finding something similar is best.Well done .

I had to mix half and half for the longest time then i started to milk only during the day and it was pretty easy after that

I too breastfeed for the first year, Congrats on going that long while so young and in school. I'm going to assume she takes a bottle since you were in school, start supplementing whole milk for breast milk one feeding at a time. This might take awhile to wean her completely but if she refuses she'll still be getting good stuff at the other feedings. Another idea, a friend of mine got her son to drink whole milk by putting a tsp of vanilla extract in it to make it sweeter and eventually he started drinking it without any vanilla at all. I hope this will help you, hang in there she will figure it out. :)
