Does your baby recognize you?

My daughter is 4 1/2 months old. Sometimes I know she recognizes me and smiles at me. But sometimes, I am not sure if she recognizes me because she has no reaction when I come home from work. If a complete stranger holds her, she cries (sometimes) and stops when I hold her. But if daddy's holding her, she won't look at me twice. I wonder is she knows that I'm her mommy? Is it too early for her know??

I bottle fed my first and went to school and I felt the same way - but my oldest is a total mamas girl. Trust that she does know you and before you know it, she'll be at the age where she'll be very excited that you're home and won't let you walk in the door with out bombarding you :)

Just an update... Almost like overnight, my baby has become mommy's girl. It was proven when couple of our friends came over for dinner last night. She was ok with them holding her until I was out of her view or after they held her for a long time. As soon as I held her, she stopped crying and was staring at me non-stop. It was too sweet!

My baby just turned 4 months and she is so in love with me lol. not to be cocky but she follows me with her eyes everywhere and when i look at her she smiles. However, there are times where she just stares at me with no smile or anything and i guess she is tired or just really observing me. Another thing that i feel that the reason my daughter goes crazy when she sees me is because im a stay at home mom so she sees me all day long everyday. However, i am sure your baby recognize you.

My husband and I joke that my son is obsessed with me. He follows my every move and smiles at me non-stop. He smiles at me even when I'm getting onto my husband. haha He doesnt do this with anybody else.

That being said, I'm sure your baby knows it is you! Maybe she has such a peaceful look on her face because she feels safe when you are around. Not all babies are crazy excited just yet to see their Mom's & Dad's =) I think I'm just extremely animated, which just tickles my baby to death. haha

Your baby definitly recognizes everything about you; your voice, your smell, and your face. I used to think the same thing because one day when I returned from running some errands he wouldn't even look at me. I almost cried (lol) But like you said you are able to calm her down when she is crying and thats because she recognizes you as her mother and the sense of security you give her.

i use to think the same thing but she would recognize your voice for sure. i did breast feed and my bub is a mummy's girl but on some days all she wants is her dad.

I think I have this fear that she doesn't know me because I didn't breastfeed from my breast (I pumped) and I also work and she stays home with the nanny. I feel like I'm missing out...

I'm sure she recognizes you. My son smiles at me every time I come in a room and freaks out when I leave much to my dismay... Even when he gets up at 2 in the morning for "play time" (so he thinks) he'll smile. When we're out and about though, he won't even look at me because he's too nosey. His dad now though, he'll smile at him in recognition rarely. Mostly he just stares at Daddy until Daddy smiles or does something silly first, and then he'll smile.

I am sure she does recognize you. My daughter will sometimes just stare at me with no expression on her face and I have wondered the same thing. I think it is just part of her development as she is trying to understand it all.
