My daughter was blessed having eczema like her mother. We have been using Aveeno for moisturizer but now we think that Johnson's bubble bath is irritating her skin. Any suggestions on what bubble bath to use?

My son and I have eczema and the only thing that works for us are products by California Baby. They even have a calendula line that does wonders for eczema, as well as bubble bath. It's kind-of expensive, but very concentrated so it lasts long. I wouldn't use Johnson & Johnson, Aveeno, Dove, Baby Eczema cream, prescriptions, etc. Once you research the ingredients in them you'll find out why you should avoid them. I highly suggest that you check out: www.cosmeticsdatabase.com. It will educate you on the ingredients in products and allows you to see what is/is not safe. I also suggest bathing your daughter only when necessary, since bath water is very drying. Good luck!

Johnsons seems to be aweful for my babies with eczema. We use Aveeno in their baths and lotion 2x per day. which has seemed to help. If it gets worse, your pediatrician can prescribe something like elidil.

Our son has terrible eczema on his legs. We use Aveeno Moisturizing Shampoo for baths, and for the lotion I put Aquaphor Cream on his legs at least 4 times a day. I wash his hair every day with shampoo right now, because he is wearing a cranial helmet, but I do not use soap on his body every time. That keeps it under control. I tried the Aveeno Baby Moisturizer Cream for 24 hours, and it got a LOT worse, so I switched back to Aquaphor Cream. I heard as well, that bubble baths dry out the skin much more.

I use oilatum or E45 emolient for my oldest. You just put it in the bath, you don't use body wash or anything with it! Deonaids skin has cleared up loads after using it for a while, infact now I only use it for flare ups which isn't very often at all

My son was also has exzema, like mommy. I was using Johnson's to start and my doctor said that anything with fragrance is not good for his skin and will irritate it more. So now I use Aveeno Baby Wash and Shampoo for his hair and for his bath I use Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Creamy Wash (which has no added fragrance and is gentle enough to use right in the bath so you can still have bubbles!!) And then I cover him in Aveeno Baby Eczema SkinCare Moisturizing Cream. Is it just me or does this sounds like an ad for Aveeno?? haha But it works great and without breakouts!! My doctor also said that giving him a bath everyday wasn't necessary because it would only lead to more breakouts. Also, just from my personal experience, watch out for products with lanolin in it, when I was little my mom did as the doctor said and would cover me in lotion multiple times a day that had it and it just made things worse. Good Luck!

AVEENO HAS A BATH AND SHAMPOO SET WITH OATMEAL. I USE IT ON MY DAUGHTER AND IT CLEARS THE ECZEMA. YOU JUST HAVE TO REPEAT THE SAME PROCESS EVERYDAY NOT MISSING ONE DAY AND IT SHOULD BE FINE

My son also has eczema like his mother, and I use the aveeno baby creams and baby washes that seem to work great for him. He had horrible reactions to every Johnson's product I tried on him and he also had reactions to Burt's Bees baby products. Our dctor who also has a child with the same condition suggested that when he has flare-ups on his body we should use Cortisone-10 twice a day. To put the Cortisone-10 on first and then the Aveeno lotion on top. However do not use the Cortisone-10 for more than 7 days because it could thin their skin. It work sgreat for both of us and flare-ups are usually gone in 1-2 days. Although Eucerin Calming Cream was also suggested to us by several people, both I and my son have reactions to that as well. The Aveeno products work the best for us.

I have had a terrible time with my daughter since she got sick before xmas. She, all of a sudden became intolerant to dairy, wheat, soy, eggs.....etc...you name it. Her eczema was so severe at one point that she could not even smile!! I use Aveeno cream and then slather an emulsifying cream on over the Aveeno. That seems to help although I had to change her diet as that was the cause of the problem. I have moved her to a diet that is free of all additives and preservatives (formula is the worst especially hypoallergenic formula). I now give her raw milk which she has tolerated far better than the hypoallergenic formula!! I can not believe the improvement in her skin. She still has some eczema on her bum but it has only been a week and the improvement in that week has been dramatic. I know a lot of people would disagree on feeding a 9mo raw milk but when you have no luck with anything else you try anything and this worked!!! The key is to keep the diet free of all additives and preservatices (even if they are organic). I am so amazed by this that I just had to tell you all!!!

my pediatrician said my son gets some exzema on his cheeks. she said johnsons lotion is the worst to use. We use Vaseline brand lotion and that helps a lot! She also suggested eucerin cream

I would also check the lotion you use too- a lot of baby lotions have petroleum products that can irritate eczema (like vaseline/ petroleum jelly, e-wax, etc). A beeswax lotion might be better, or even just jojoba oil.

Corrine, thank you so much for your advice! Its the little things you don't think about! I have been using Johnson's Baby Wash as her bubble bath per say but now you bring UTI's to my attention I will not do that anymore! I will definitely give the lavender and oatmeal a try and see if that reduces her flare ups. Ruth, I do use the Aveeno with the blue top. That seems to reduce the flare up but I think its the body wash that may be causing all this. So we will try and see! Thanks a million girls!

do you use baby aveeno (blue top)? my son too has ezema and i lather him up with lotion afterwards and then at every diaper change. however, the doc did give me a prescription for his "flare-ups". Luckily since I started lathering him up at every diaper change, he hasn't had any flare-ups. g'luck

Both my 5 year old daughter and 9 month old son have had eczema since birth. My doctor has advised to skip the bubbles in the bath completely, and to wash with Dove soap. Unfortunately you don't get the "clean baby" smell that we all love, so I use either the Johnson's Lavendar and Oatmeal baby wash or the Aveeno Oatmeal baby wash. But like I said, don't put it in the water, just use it for washing. The other upside of doing this is that bubble baths have a tendency to cause urinary tract infections in little girls (we went through 3 infections before the doc said no more bubble baths). I hope this helps! Good luck!
