I use Mylicone, it's works for the most part.... but burp often! I actually have to put my little one in his car seat (not sitting straight up like normal) since sitting at an angle helps. Also something else that has been an absolute miracle is I have a little rice-filled bag w/ rice and lavender in it that my mother in law made ( you can buy them), just put it in the microwave for about 3-40 sec.. wrap in a receiving blanket and place in his/her tummy! And infant massage when calm...

I have found that putting my son (who is breastfed) across my lap on his belly helps get the gas out after feeding. Just make sure you have a cloth down otherwise you'll be showered in spit up. If the gas is much later than feeding time, I find that if I take his legs in each hand and then bend his knees and push his knees towards his tummy, it releases the achiness in his belly.

With my daughter who was formula and breast feed, she found comfort with Mylicone drops.

If your baby is breastfed, watch what you eat. Foods like broccoli and even chocolate are problematic!

My husband and I went to the doctor because our baby was very gassy and made weird grunting noses. We asked if we could switch formulas and like Gina we changed from a broken down cow's milk formula to soy and our baby is a totally different child. The grunting noises stopped, he is less fussy, and he does not spit up as much. Our baby sleeps longer through the night as well. Good luck!

I used Mylicon a couple of times, but it didn't do the trick like some baby yoga that I learned for her. I do a couple of her baby yoga exercises whenever she seems gassy, and it helps her to pass gas instantly, every time. It'll be hard to describe here, but I'll try:
Bend one leg and smoosh it into her stomach a couple times, then the other leg.
Then do both legs at once a few times.
Then take both of her feet together and bring them up towards her mouth with legs straight(ish). They don't have to reach her mouth completely.

This will produce a few farts every time with my little one. If this doesn't make sense, let me know and I'll try to have my husband film it one day and I'll post it on my page.

You say you changed formula to lactose-free. Is it still milk based? My doc said to go to soy, not the lactose free. The problem for most babies isn't the lactose, but rather difficulty in breaking down the milk proteins. They grow out of it eventually. I cut dairy out of my diet and we only use soy formula for supplementation. It has been 2.5 weeks now and he is a totally different baby, even started sleeping through the night now that he isn't waking up crying in pain from his gas.

My son was a gassy baby, it always helped if I draped him over my legs and burped him that way, if that didn't work Mylocon is a great thing to keep in your medicine chest.

Have you tried changing nipple flow rate? Too slow and baby sucks in air while trying to get the formula. Too fast and baby gulps air while trying to swallow.

You may want to try a different type of bottle too.

Good luck!

My baby boy is gassy as well and the docs had told us to try Enfamil Nutamigen or Similac Alimentum. I think the Similac seemed to work better but he is still gassy. We also tried the Mylicon and Babys Bliss Gripe Water and neither seemed to work. Our pediatrician then advised us to try boiling 1 tsp of actual fennel seeds in 1 cup of water for about 8 mins then strain the fennel seeds, let water cool and serve in a doppler to baby in between feedings (1 oz). I tried it for the first time on Friday, so far it seemed to help slightly but you need to keep doing it in order for it to work... keep your fingers crossed...GOOD LUCK :-)

Our little girl is pretty gassy too - have you tried the "colic hold"? it puts gentle pressure on the tummy and helps relieve gas. Hold her drapped over your arm - with her head rested on your arm near your elbow and your other arm supporting her behind. Also - you could try a gripe water with fennel and ginger - both effective in relieving gas - like Baby's Bliss or Colic Calm. Actually Mylicon attempts to simulate the effects of fennel - I always think the "real thing" is more effective... Good Luck!

My boy is gassy too. His Dr. said to try and feed him in an almost sitting up position and burp him ever 2 ounces. She also said to not put him down to sleep too soon after eating. The gas drops work sometimes it seemd but not always. Good luck!!
