help! she wont stop spinning!

My daughter is 21 mothns old and LOVESSS to spin in circles. It scares me too, ive tried to stop her but she just wont. She runs in circles and laughs histerically. I just try to watch her while she's spinning and gaurd her from falling into anything, I think its just something they like to do at this age, and you just have to wait for them to get through it. My daughter has fell and hit anything from the wall to a couch or even other people. Even after shes done spinning she tries to run it off, but shes dizzy and runs into things anyway. I would just try to keep an eye on her while shes spinning and try to catch her if she's going to fall into anything. Kids are resiliant, she'll bounce back if she gets hurt. Some children just have to learn that it can hurt them the hard way.

Eric loves playing musical chairs!
He doesn't 'get' the whole sit when the music stops, but he just sits when he feels like it!
It's too cute, and he likes to start circling the chair and calling for me to join!
Great way to enhance their spin addiction!

My son does, you just watch and try to make sure that she does it in a "safe place" i.e. in the center of the living room where there aren't any sharp corners etc. My son has gone from spinning circles to running circles around us when we are standing up. Good luck :-)

yes! My kids spin round and round all the time!!! LET THEM DO IT! It is absoloutely excellent for their development. It has been proven that is is a natural process that must occur. Keep em safe, make sure their is nothing dangerous around them but let em go at it. Something about the brain... I'm not sure what but I'll research it and get back.

my daughter loves to spin. She does it until she falls down and then laughs and says "I'm too dizzy". I just try to make sure she doesn't do it somewhere she could seriously hurt herself, like near the coffee table which has sharp corners.

My 19 month old does is and I see no problem in it. He does it every time we say circles. Kids are going to fall and get bumps and bruises, you have to let them do it or else they are never going to get it. My son loves doing circles.

Almost as soon as my daughter had mastered walking she was spinning just try your best to baby proof the area and catch her when she staggers. Its just a phase as they explore different ways they can move their body. My daughter is 20 months and she has also started walking backwards alot and on tip toes xx

My daughter does this too. I just let her do it, cuz she won't listen to me when I tell her to stop. One thing I did was buy her a Sit-n-Spin for Christmas. I figure that this allows her to spin in a safe manner. She hasn't tried it yet, but I'm sure she'll love it! I don't know why, but she loves to spin!

My son is 20 Months old & He still spins I've never really stopped him I think it's cute everytime he does it I just make sure that there is nothing around that he can fall and get hurt on

My daughter used to do that too, thought it was hillarious when she fell over because she was soo dizzy. I made a game with her, did it with her then would yell STOP! put both hands out flat when I did it and we would freeze....this became the focus of the game rather than the spinning. STOP, FREEZE...then dance or tickle or somthing else, basically I would act like a complete idiot, she thought it was great!

It helps develop the inner ear and give them more balance and stability.
No reason to discourage it, it's like walking climbing and running, a milestone that helps kids grow up well.
It's something to enjoy, and be proud of, not something to stop.

My daughters been doing that for forever!! I personally find it hysterically, and she has fallen and hurt herself. Nothing serious though. Clear out the room of tables and things she can hurt herself on and let her go. Its one of the joys of being young! I still love spinning in circles as an adult! DOnt stop her since shes entertained, just put up barriers to protect her, like getting rid of, or moving tables. Also, if she hurts hersel, she hurts herself. Part of life is getting hurt. Thats how most people learn to not do something. XP My daughter is currently learning that hitting her head on the floor hurts, and I can yell at her all I want, but she is stubborn and has to learn everything herself. (I am DREADING the teenage years!!)

Yep my 19 mo DD started spinning last week we let her go for it she does it for about 10 minutes then she find somthing else to do.

Actually, spinning is extremely important for healthy development. The concern would come in if your daughter only wanted to spin to the exclusion of other activities, and if her speech or social skills were delayed. Otherwise, if you're afraid that she'll hurt herself, try playing ring around the rosey or get one of those sit-and-spin toys for her to play with. It's normal and important, and many kids do it well into childhood. My 19-month-old goes around and around anything she can find!

my 19th year old does this and I think it is cute. she's bumped into things a few times, but she's a kid! lately, I've intervened by doing ring around the rosie with her so she spins while she holds my hands :-)

Mine also loves spinning. But I really haven't tried stopping her. It's too cute. After spinning for a while she's really disorientated. It's so cute to watch her trying to walk after a spinning session.

Oh yes my son spins all the time. I just let him to it but I make sure that he doesn't do it near the stairs or anything like that. I think that he just likes the feeling of spinning. My neice did the same thing and she has grown out of it at 2. My son is 19 months and he doesn't do it nearly as much as he used to. so I think its something that they do and then grow out of.
