My 20th month old is 11.4kgs. My midwife he is just under the blue line but not panic. He is very active. He eats his meals and has snacks but does not stop for 1 min (only when he is sleeping). I have to take him back in one month just to check he doesnt go too under the growth line.

My daughter is 19 months and weights 32 pounds with 32 inches in height, She was always a big baby. However, she is a active baby that runs around and plays. The doctor told me to give her 2 percent milk because of her overweight.

Emma is 29.9 lbs. and has a 49.5 cm head! lol. My husband has a big head too! :) She's a big, healthy girl!

My son will be 19 months on the 27th and he weighs 34 pounds but is just over 3 feet tall. Dr's show no concern for him but do mention that it is out of the ordinary but there is no concern. Some children gain slowly then pick up fast all of a sudden and some kids like mine will grow fast and above average and then level out and stay that way for several years.

When my son turned 18 months he was 28.2 lbs, now he just turned 19 months & is 28.4 lbs. (would equal 12.8 & 12.9 kg) He barely eats anything though, super fussy eater & mostly just picks at his food

Has he grown height? Mydr said that often times after a year toddlers slow down growing, or stop for a while. But she said if they gain height it's a great sign that all is well, they just are using all their calories for energy.

As I said my son also didn't grow for 7 months straight, but then he did grow.

Eric breastfeeds about 7 times a day, maybe more! And he eats ,some of my meals every time I eat so that's probaly like 4-5 very small meals a day.

It seems like he gets more nutrition from me then food but I see how tiny amounts his weaned friends eat at a meal and I know he gets enough.

He doesn't drink milk, but he also loves chicken! No veggies I think but fruit is s fav.

Try giving your son avocado or refried beans, very good fats!

Oh and also, the normal distribution of breastmilk and solids for a 18 month old is 50-50 breastmilk to solids.

So your milk SHOULD make up half his diet now. And by two years it would be more like 75-25 solids to breastmilk.

I hope he is back on the booby now! It's really not that I don't trust drs, nut you have to realize when they are misinformed, and this is one time for sure.

Best of luck, you might want to post a question about this on breastfeeding moms community cuz there's tons of moms there who know alot that could help you too! And I saw there was like three other 18month olds on this page who are the same weight as your son so he isn't that small!

Oh my goodness thank you so much. I really appreciate it. I have wanted all a long to do child lead weaning and it broke my heart when the doctor said i should stop breastfeeding. I thought my milk was better for him than cow's milk but he's not gaining much weight. He hasn't lost any weight just not really gaining any. The doctor said that she was afraid that i was not producing enough milk to make him grow. We nurse 4-6 times a day and eat 3 good meals. I make all his food we hardly ever eat out and still he's not gaining. Now i do have a problem because he won't eat yogurt (frozen or regular) he won't eat cheese or ice cream. So the only milk product he does get is from me. I've tried everything and i'm starting to feel like a bad mom because i can't seem to get him to eat the things my doctor feels he's suppose to. My son loves fruit but not so much on veggies. Meat is a struggle sometimes but almost always he will eat chicken. Misty! Your dr is totally wrong! Oh please look up at kellymom.com and read about the breastfeeding toddler.
Ok the truth is, lots of drs have NO idea about nutrition, none at all. And they aren't taught anything about breastfeeding past a year!
Your son does NOT need cows milk EVER.
Your milk is way way way more healthy for him then a cows milk. Cows milk has less fat then human milk even whole milk.
Cows milk is not important for a breastfed toddler and many many many toddlers get no cows milk until they wean.
My son drinks no cows milk.
Did he lose weight or is he just not gaining much?
My son did not gain one pound or one inch from 12-17 months but then hit a growth spurt and gained two pounds and two inches!
If your son is losing weight then you might need to work on a better plan, but weaning is NEVER healthier for a Child.
Your milk is essential for his immune system until a minimum of two years.
The american academy of family physicians says that weaning a child before two years puts them at increased risk of illness.
Let him breastfeed as much as he wants, he needs to be allowed to regulate his diet. If he asks to nurse nurse him, when he isn't asking to nurse offer some food. When you eat offer what you have.
If he likes something alot make it for him daily! Even if it's not too nutritious like noodles (my sons fav)

We went for my son's 18 month check up and he is weighing in at 21.10 lbs and is 32 inches tall. I'm still breastfeeding because my son won't drink milk. My doctor said that my son was underweight and i should stop breastfeeding and starve him out to get him to drink milk. I've been doing this for 3 days. I was pumping trying to at least get him to drink the breast milk but he refuses. He won't drink it in a cup or a sippy cup and he loves his sippy cup. He drinks juice but refuses milk. I'm at my wits end because today is day 4 and he refuses to eat much since i stopped breastfeeding. He eats one meal in the whole day and just cryies saying "me baby, me baby" and smacks my boob. Anyone have any suggestions?

My son is tiny. He weighed 17lb 13 oz at 18 mos. I have been going to specialized doctors to find out why he is so small, but they haven't been able to find anything wrong. I am still having problems getting him on solid food as well...but he eats like 6-8 jars of baby food a day and milk. Any suggestions to get him eating solid foods? He does eat some, but not much in the way of solid foods.

My 18 month old daughter is 9.4kgs. I'm not concerned about her weight as she is petite, healthy and happy. She eats everything (healthy diet), is on the go all day and sleeps all night. There will always be children below & above the scale but as long as they are healthy and happy you have nothing to worry about.

I need a calculator!! My little one just hit 20 lbs. I think it's 9.09 kg?? divide by 2.2 right?? anyway, now we can turn the carseat around to Forward face. She eats more than her 3 yr old brother every day. dr says she 's in the 2% for weight. But very healthy.

My son's weight and height on his 18th month check up was 23 lbs (16%ile) and 2' 8" (56%ile). The doctor said to add olive oil in everything he eats.

My son runs non-stop. They are in the active age so I think you wouldn't need to worry. As long as there is a progress with his weight or height then then that's fine. :)

Linda, I know how you feel with breastfeeding a "big" toddler! I'm not sure the conversions but my Eric is 28lbs and still is bf in public sometimes!

It's hard cuz he doesn't fit on my lap well and his hips and legs are like on the side of me!

Some people say if they can't fit on your lap they shouldn't breastfeed, I just reply, well my nipple still fits in his mouth so I don't see the problem!

My little man is 18 months and weights 14.5kg... he has always been in the 96th percentile. Each kid is different...I constantly get comments about how "Big" my little boy is..he is very tall also. it's hard when people (especially baby nurses etc) make you feel like you are doing something wrong. As long as you little one is eating well and is happy, then I say go with Mother's intuition....Hugs xxx

I feel much better after reading this thread, as have some reassurance now. My son is 18 months and only 22 lbs, he is still wearing 9-12 months clothes, health visitor told me not to worry about it but I do. (suppose doesn't help that I am tiny too, but his father isn't!)

My son is exactly the same, really healthy eater and we couldn't possibly feed him any more! We had him weighed last week and he came in at 10.1kgs! He looks healthy is hitting his milestones and is super active so Dr said not to worry, your the mum you'll know if something is wrong

my daughter is exactly 10 kg and 75 cm tall. She has always been little, and I think she probably always will be, as her dad's side of the family are all pretty small. His mum is tiny, and it looks like she is going to take after their side of the family. That said, I was a tiny, skinny little kid myself and only got tall when I reached my mid teens. My daughter is healthy, growing at a steady rate and certainly eats well enough. I have never been told that she is underweight, but I also never took her to any child health clinics or anything like that - we went to our GP for all of her immunisations and she has had all of her health checks and measurements done while she is there. I decided not to go to the clinics after a friend complained that she felt she was being judged as they were constantly telling her that her daughter was underweight, and not growing fast enough, etc - despite the fact that she is very tall for her age and thin, yes, but her father is also very tall and thin. Finally someone looked up the average growth rate for dutch babies (her father is dutch) and it turns out she was right on track with the dutch average. There are so many things to consider - racial heritage, familial genes, etc. As long as your baby is healthy, eats well and doesn't have noticeably protruding bones, I'm sure he's fine.

my daugher had her needles n weigh in last week and she only just scraped in at 10kg, as it bounced between 9.9 - 10 kg mark, she is still wearing 00 clothes too at 76cm tall so she's bite sized compared to many her age, but i'm not worried at all, as out 4 children 3 were always in the lower % mark if not on the chart at all and they all are just fine.
I'd be rather concerned about the dewormer though, none of my children have been wormed and all 4 can non stop eat, generally boys will eat more especially during a growth spurt, but my girl can eat my boys under the table some nights :)

my daughter will be 19 months on the 10th and she is 9kg, she is in the 12th percentile for weight and 24th for height..which is much better than under the 3rd percentile which she used to be(she wasnt even on the chart for a while) she is small but by no means starving, shes got some meat on her. haha. Also me and my husband are not big people either

Yes my son is also 10.5 kgs as of last Mon & he has a very good appetite also. We did not see his regular Dr. due to the fact that she is on maternity leave & the Dr. we saw made it seem like I was starving him!!! We have an appt in 1 mo. for weight check.

My daughter's 18 months old & weighs 11kgs, but like everyone else, she lost weight when she started crawling & then again when she started walking & from now on weight gain will decrease as they're so active at this stage. I wouldn't worry about it as long as your kid's got a healthy appetite then don't give it a second thought.

My son will be 18 mths on the 30th.he weighs 33 lbs and is almost 37 inches tall. I only wish I had a lil guy.He's been big since a baby.He eats pretty well but mostly fruits.he is very active and is balanced in height and weight.be glad you don't have an 18 mth the size of a three year old.

My son was a month early and 10lb 12oz, at 4 months,22lb 4oz at 12 months he was 28lb 12oz. They told me as long as he did not grow or gain weight for 12 months, he would be on schedule.
He wears tops for 3 year olds, jeans for 18-24 months. I haven't weighed him since his 1 year check. If he is happy and healthy and developing well, why would I need a dr or text book to tell me how he should be to conform to their ideas? If you are concerned keep a diary of your childs food and drink intake for a few days so you get a clearer picture of what they have.I am sure you just have a busy little person who is too busy and active learning about the world to keep the weight on.

Njoki, not to worry, as long as he is healthy that's what counts....it could be genes - u ain't big urself n i wish i had such genes!! Kelsey weighed 12kg at 17 months coz that's when i took her for the 18th month check since we were travelling....n believe u me m sure she has lost some kg's now as she is more active but m not worried...as long as baby is feeding fine on healthy stuff...that's good enough!

My son weighs 14kg's but he is a little thug. every child is different. So long as he is eating well and he is happy, don't stress, you will have plenty of other things to worry about as he grows.

I just took my son for his 18 month checkup this week. He is onl 20 pounds 14 ounces. That puts him in the 3rd percentile. He has always been on the lower end for weight, but has not drastically lost weight. He eats all the time and snacks. He was on breast milk up until recently. He does not eat junk food or sweets. He has grown an inch in the last 4 months so the doctor was not worried. He is just a skinny kid. Plus with the majority of people and children being overweight these days, that would put the weight charts a little off for "heathy" weights.

my daughter was weighed yesterday for her 18 mth check and she's only 9.3kgs she's very active and doesn't sleep alot and so burns off everything she eats. I wouldn't worry about it if they are eating well and if there is a family history of slim people.

we go in for our 18month appt tomorrow but my guy has been pretty much off the charts since 3 months old. He was 30 lbs at 15 months so I expect to see 32-33 lbs this time.
