How much milk/formula does your April Baby drink and how many feedings a day?

My April baby turned 8 months old almost 2 weeks ago and we JUST got her using bottles (after 4 months of trying!!). She's drinking breastmilk and formula mixed together, but I'll be switching to formula only once my breasts get used to not being used as much.

My oldest was weaned at 6 months and it seems like this was all easier for me with her. I can't remember where she was at this point in regards to how many feedings she had in a day and how many ounces she had per feeding. My daughter is just getting used to the bottle, so she's not drinking more than 3-4 ounces per feeding.

I'm interested to see what other mom's of April babies are doing so I can adjust my daughter's feedings if needed. I'm not sure why I'm struggling so much with this as I've been through all of this before. I appreciate any help you all might be able to offer!

As a mum of 3 and also an Early Years Manager I can assure you that every child is an individual and yes you do forget and yes every child is different! The text books etc. state that a child of your daughters age should be having the equivalent of three, 7 oz feeds per 24 hrs. My son (born 18.04.09) is not interested in the slightest of taking his bottle for the last couple of months, despite being formula fed from almost day one (I had no milk)! He will have approx 5oz in a morning (if we are lucky), we struggle to get milk down him in the day and at night he may have between 1-7oz depending on his mood. I am not stressing and supplement it with yoghurts etc in his diet. Try to think 'outside the box', every child is different and does not follow the text book-good luck! Let me know how you get on!!

Hi! Alana is 8 & 1/2 months old and this is her typical day: Breastfeeds around 5:30a and again at 9a. After her 9a breastfeeding, she has oatmeal mixed w/ 2 oz of breastmilk, then she goes to daycare. There, she drinks her first 6 oz bottle at 12p, then w/ her 2nd 6 oz bottle, around 3p, she eats half a jar of 2nd stage carrots. At home, she breastfeeds at 6p with her dinner of some assortment of 2nd stage vegetables (1/2 from one jar, 1/2 from another). Goes to sleep around 7p and wakes up between 5:30a and 6:30a. My husband and I have never known exactly what to do, but she seems to be growing at a healthy rate, is very healthy and happy and has "all the chunk in the right places," as her pediatrician says!

My 8 month old has one 8oz bottle before bed, and maybe a 6oz bottle in the morning if he is up early. He doesn't really have jars of baby food (only if there is no time and he is starving!). He has orange squash (well diluted) during the day, and generally just eats what we eat - cereal/porridge/toast for breakie, sandwiches/beans on toast etc for lunch then a normal dinner. He was not interested in bottles once he got started on the proper grub, and he's been this way since 6 months old.

My twin boys each have about 4 - 7oz bottles of formula a day, plus eat cereal and fruit for breakfast, and stae two food for lunch and supper (both eat a full one) and i also mix cereal in with their food to thicken it so it's not so runny. They also get about 1/2 water 1/2 juicy juice mixture in between. Hope this helps.

The rule of thumb is 2oz. per lb. So if your baby is 20lbs. she should be getting about 40 oz. of food/formula a day.

well first off I didn't breast feed so we didn't have the issue with weening to the bottle but as for how much, my daughter is now on homo milk and she drinks anywhere from 5-6 10 oz bottles a day but she is also eating solid food, we don't have teeth yet but she pretty much eats what ever we do. I do give her prepared baby food for one meal each day to make she is getting all the nutrients and vitamins she needs

my almost 9 month old son has about 4 or 5 6oz bottles a day. Also eats finger foods about 3 times a day. Wont do the pureed food anymore, he loved the homemade stuff I made him, but once he got a try of feeding himself, there was no going back.

My son is 8 and a half months old and is drinking 3 8 oz bottles of formula a day and having 4 or 5 solid feeds. He eats every 2 hours. I think this is a lot though most ppl i know have never fed their babies this much. But my son is always hungry. He really loves his food :)

my breast milk stopped at about 4 months, when i fell pregnant with my second baba. so matilda had no choice but to swifty move to formula and frozen supplies of my milk. now she is on 3 bottles- one at 7am of 7oz. two at 2pm about 4/5oz. three at 7pm of 8oz. however matilda has started to turn down her lunch time bottle so we just see what shes up to on the day.
if she does turn it down i give her dairy products at tea time - cheese sauce with veg and pasta. yoghurts any thing really. but just do whats right for you- i tried all sorts and used to listen to much to what other people said, which would upset me if it didnt work cause i would fel as if i was a useless mother. no we do what we want and it works. good luck x

Every baby is different- It probably was a lot easier weaning your first daughter to the bottle. This baby is not the same child- and so the whole experience is bound to be different.

As for how much, I have no idea- my dd is still BF and has refused bottles since 2 mo. I need to start pumping again so that we can try again with the sippy or even just a regular cup. I would love the freedom to be able to get out for more than 3 hours at a time without her.

As for how often, she nurses every 3 hours or so during the day. I think she's gearing up for a growth spurt because she had been sleeping through the night and now- she's waking again at night. She sits with us at all our meals and at snacktimes where I offer her table food. She loves that and is getting to be a pretty good eater.

Goodluck- If I remember correctly, as they start eating more regular food, they stop drinking as much milk. I really stressed about my son when he started more table food because I thought he wasn't drinking enough- but then I realized that if he was thirsty, he'd let me know, or he'd drink what was offered.

I am a mother of twin boys, almost 9 months old. Their eating schedule is consistent everyday. I make them 3: 6oz bottles for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and a 71/2 oz bottle for bedtime. For breakfast they have 4Tbs. of Oatmeal (mixed with formula from the prepared bottle) along with a gerber 2nd foods fruit mixed in, they then get the remainder of the bottle when they are done with the fruit/cereal. For lunch they get a 2nd foods veggie and their 6oz bottle. Dinner they get the same as breakfast and then get their 7oz bottle before bed. They are sleeping from about 8:30pm to 8:00am and we are loving it:) We also give them puffs and other small finger type foods to allow them practice in feeding themselves.

Because I started working three months after Julian was born, I found that, on top of Julian feeling disenchanted with the girls' services, my breast milk supply dwindled considerably. I reached a point where I couldn't even express 6 oz for a baby boy who loved his milk and would not drink less than 6 to 8 oz per feeding! I started him on mashed up boiled egg yolk with bananas and some orange juice at 7 months of age, and he liked it! Now he eats stage 2 foods along with other concoctions I puree for him and store in freezer bags. He still loves his formula milk, and drinks two 8 oz bottles throughout the day and one 8 oz- dream feed bottle for a decent night's sleep. I also got him a sippy cup with handles for water drinking, but he only seems to enjoy nibbling on and slobbering all over the spout. I plan to have him start drinking orange/apple juice out of it soon.

My almost 9 month old breastfeeds in the morning before I go to work, usually takes 3 bottles of about 5 oz each of expressed breastmilk while she's at daycare, and breastfeeds again at night before bed. She won't hardly eat from a spoon anymore and prefers feeding herself solids. I started her on happy baby puffs a few months ago and she loved them... I think they disolve a little easier than gerber's puffs do.... and now she's totally off of the mushed up baby foods and only into feeding herself solid chunks of whatever I give her. She eats a lunch of veggies and a couple of snacks of happy baby organic puffs (greens, banana, or apple), dehydrated bananas and strawberries, yogurt snacks, mum mums, etc. at daycare, then she eats a huge well-rounded dinner composed of fruits, veggies, meats, cheeses, yogurt snacks, and whole wheat bread all cut up into bite-sized pieces so that she can feed herself, sips water from a cup, and then breastfeeds again before bed. I just let her lead the way on the whole feeding thing... When it comes to table foods she just wants to feed herself, so that's what we usually do. I guess it's nice that she's trying to be such an independent eater already... Now I've just got to find a home for all those jars of baby food that I still have in the cupbord, lol.

My daughter was taking a 4 oz. bottle every two hours, plus eating breakfast/snack/lunch/snack and dinner. Now she is taking 2-4 oz. every 3-4 hours, plus eating loads of solids (we feed her table food). It's almost like she's self-weaning, but still just tosses her sippy cup on the floor LOL

HI! My 8.5 month old drinks a 6 oz bottle when he wakes up at 7am, then he eats crereal mixed with fruit at 11. Then he eats lunch, usually whatever we have, but mashed up, same deal for dinner, then a 6 oz bottle before bed. Sometimes he has a bottle for dinner instead of food. So he is getting 2 or 3 6 oz bottles per day.

My son Rudy currently takes 24 oz of formula a day in 6 oz feedings. I give him a bottle every 4 hours and he has stage 2 baby food in between bottles. I asked the doctor last week if I should increase his intake since he's so lean. She told me that he doesn't need much more than that if he's on solids, and that his intake will decrease even more once I start him on table foods. Rudy has a small frame and he's only 17.64lbs, so he doesn't even drink all 6 oz every time. The doctor said that anywhere from 24 to 27 oz is okay, and if he's drinking more than that, he should be on table foods. I'm nervous about giving him table foods, but I'm reluctantly starting next week. Aside from the formula and baby food he eats puffs for a snack. I tried a teething buscuit, but I didn't like the mess and I think he has too many teeth because he bit off a huge chunk that I had to pull from his mouth.

Torin was breastfed for a few days after I got home along with bottles of breast milk that I pumped (just like in the hospital) so he's quite used to the bottles. I feed on demand so he "snacks" on & off all day & drinks a lot other times. He's now drinking about 32 oz of breast milk a day along with 8 oz of juice, 3 big meals a day & some Gerber puff snacks if he's really hungry in between. While he was teething, he had me up all night & went through an extra 14 oz of milk through the night. Both my kids are eating/drinking powerhouses though. His brother went through a lot of milk too. He used to take 10 oz at a time when he was a baby & then eat 2 jars of food an hour later. I have no idea where these kids put it all.

My April baby will be 9 months in a couple of days & her milk feeds have gone weird! Been weaning since 4 months old and she's done really well. Up until last week she was having 3 meals a day, sometimes a snack & 4 bottles of 7oz, sometimes a few oz of water too. We've been on hols for 2 weeks and it's all changed - I think because we introduced her to so many new tastes. She's now eating loads more and has dropped a bottle during the day. Out of the 3 bottles she does have, she might only take 12-15oz milk a day. Not too worried coz shes a really happy bunny but I did read somewhere that they should still have at least 18oz a day at this age. Same as most things - I'm sure she'll let you know if she's hungry or not happy! Just stick with it, try new foods (especially dairy if you're worried about milk intake) - I found that yoghurts, jelly & cheese went down a storm!

Man, it feels like my son is a bit behind with feedings... He is about 29 inches tall and 20 lbs. He is now 9 months old. He gets a cereal (about 4 oz with liquid), and a total of 2 3.5 oz portions of solids a day. We suppliment his feedings with 4-4oz bottles and one 6 oz bottle. Generally he will only get 5 of the 6 ounce bottle in him. He sleeps well, and isn't all that cranky. We alternate meal with formula. He was not breastfed (maybe a handful of colustrum feedings) since my milk didn't come in well. I bound with my first child (10 yeras ago) as he was an adopted baby and I couldn't breastfeed him. Insodoing, I damaged my glands... Good luck to all you mommies out there!

My almost 9 month old is eating 3-6oz bottles & I just started 1-8oz bottle before bed (although he doesn't finish the whole thing). He has toast in the morning to practice feeding himself & 2- #2 containers of food a day. He also has been getting a few puffs or crackers & a sippy cup w/ water for afternoon snack time. Never gave him baby cereal (I never will) & no juice yet; I'm more worried about making sure he's getting formula & all the nutrition he needs from that right now. So he gets about 24-26 oz a day of formula.

I only breastfed for 1 month then switched to formula as my son wasn't a good nurser (he'd keep pulling himself off the nipple & I'd have to work to latch him back on and nursing sessions would last an hour or more and then he'd still act hungry!). My son will be 9 months on Jan 28th and he can take in 8+ ounces of formula in one feeding. He is also eating 2-3 jars of baby food a day at breakfast, lunch & dinner. He has drank 12 ounces in a sitting. He's 70th percentile with weight & 98th percentile for height so I don't know if your daughter is smaller & therefore requires less - just let her be the guide! Most babies after 6-months move onto the bigger bottles and have the capacity to take in 8 ounces of formula for one feeding. My son takes about five 8oz bottles a day plus his jarred foods & biter biscuits. Good luck with the bottle feeding!
