My little girl is gonna be 8 months old on Dec. 18th, she weighs just over 17 lbs...she weighed 6lbs 14oz at Birth and alot of people tell me she is little for her age. I have a cousin whos baby is just 5 months old and weighs 16 1/2 lbs...and he wieghed 6lbs 10oz! She eats good usually 3-4 bottles a day, rice for dinner, oatmeal for breakfast, and a fruit and veggie for lunch.

Hi Kristi, Babies come in all shapes and sizes. My 8mo weighs 6.5kg (about 14lb 5oz) but is happy and healthy!

i agree with everyone else- my daughter is about 16lb (had to convert! just over 7kg?) and i've not given a second thought to her weight. she's breastfed, LOVES to eat and is very happy- and developing well.

My little girl has just turned 8 months she was 6lb 9oz when she was born and is now only 15lb, shes small but is gaining each week, she is weaning well and has a good appetite, shes part breast and part formula fed. Our GP is happy that shes just a small child. I wouldn't worry about weight so long as shes thriving and is regularly gaining weight. When they are small they are cuter!

Quoting Connie:

People tell me my son is tiny. My son turned 8 months Dec. 6th and is just over 16lbs. He was 6lbs. 5oz when he was born. I'm not worried about his size. I read an article about how people think chubby babies are cute, so everyone wants a chubby baby. But in reality, chubby babies are not necessarily the healthier baby. It may lead to being overweight later in life. My son is lean, strong and healthy. He eats 5-6 bottles a day, fruit and oatmeal for breakfast, and meat and veggies for dinner, and finger foods throughout the day. He's a very good eater. He's a fast crawler and loves to scale the furniture. He's already taken his first steps unsupported. To me, that says he's happy and healthy!

Oh, the article is in the book What to Expect the First Years.

bare in mind every child is different, my daughter weighed 6lbs 12 oz @ birth she was born 6th april and now @ 8 months she weighs 34 lbs. people say she big for her age and she only breast feeds, if she eats well dont worry about the weight thaty all grow different, you know she is healthy.
