she is rolling over sometimes, although not often, but she still hasnt started crawling. in fact, each time i try to put her on her stomach she gets fussy after a minute. i think she really hates being on her belly.

I think it jus take time. My son turned 7months last week and he hates being on his belly. he flips and scoot around the floor but he will never crawl. its crazy becuz his first tooth started comin in last week. so it jus depends on the baby i guess

Babies tend to be mastering sitting around the age of 6 months rather than crawling although some will sit earlier and some will sit later. Although some may be crawling by 6 months this is quite early. As has been mentioned before some babies do not crawl but bottom shuffle or go straight to walking. It's good to encourage a bit of tummy time even though most babies don't like it at first as this is the precursor to crawling and helps to strengthen their arm, back and neck muscles. Increase the time on their tummies bit by bit so they gradually get used to it. You can stay with your baby or give her toys she loves or new toys to make it more fun for her. My daughter didn't crawl until about 10months but with increased tummy time her arms became stronger and ready for crawling. Also stronger arms will be useful later in life when they develop their fine motor skills of hands and fingers. Remember when people talk about what is 'normal' there is always a range of weeks or months in age of when you would expect a baby to be developing that skill.

My son will be 7 months old next week and he still has no interest in crawling what so ever. He sits up unsupported, he rolls over both ways, and he loves to stand up either in the exersaucer, jumper, or w/ us holding him up, but he is showing no signs of crawling. He also doesn't like to be on his belly, unless he is really tired and wants to go to sleep. I'm just enjoying this time when he can sit and play without having to chase him around!

My Daughter is 7 months and not crawling they say that babbling crawling walking and talking they happen at there own pace!! But the milestones are really there to see the development of the baby rolling at four months sitting at six and so on!!! Now I know this from the many trips to the childrens office and the many test's they ran!! They don't neccissarily sit at six months but they should be starting to is not then some dr's will start testing for stupid things!!! In all reality they will only learn to roll sit and crawl if you help them like rolling being on there backsw and tummys and sitting if you sit them up and support them and then crawling comes along with the being on the floor playing!! My daugter is officially starting to move around now!!!

Hi Patricia,

Your lil girl sounds just like mine who is nearly 8mnth only recently has mine been able to roll from her back to her belly but then gets frustrated cause then she is stuck.

Up until she was able to roll onto her tummy she hated being placed on her belly even when i was starting baby massage classes.

Every child is different i really wouldn't worry as i think your lil one will surprise you one day by not bothering bout being on her belly and being able to crawl (then you will be kept on your toes).

hope this helps

Lynne

My son is 7 months old and not crawling. I think this is normal. Not all babies crawl. My stepson scooted around on his bum and started that about the age of 10 months. He didn't start walking till sometime after a yr. One thing you could do is leg exorcises. Just gently push his legs into his belly and let him push back. Also, sit down on a chair and hold him in between your legs so hes standing up. Let him bounce and try to stand up. That way your helping him strengthen his knees and ankle muscles. Another thing you should know is, he shouldn't go in a walker. They can prevent a baby from walking/crawling at the age they should. As for bouncers, they are fine for the most part. But no more than1-2hrs a day. Both walkers and bouncers can make a babies legs bow out. Thus causing them to have problems with crawling and walking. Hope I could help. Good luck and don't worry about so much right now.

my youngest is 7 1/2 months now and she isn't crawling either. but it's not like she's trying, lol. she gets on herstomac and tried hard to go forward but just pushes herself back. i'm not worried her sister didn't crawl till she was 11 months and walked on her own about 5-6 months after. it's better for babies to be on the floor then in a play set or jumper other then to get their legs muscles working. but if your baby doesn't like being put on their stomac then don't put them there. let them figurse out that it's fun to rolland be there because they can get around to more things that way.

Try not to compare. I know it's tough. My daughter started crawling at 6.5 months, but I believe it is because of a particular toy that she just loves. I would start playing with the toy a few feet away. At first, she would just do the swimmer's position on her tummy and not get anywhere. I would then put her into a crawling position and play again with the toy. Within a few days, she was awkwardly crawling towards the toy. On a Tuesday, she had never crawled. By consistently doing this and moving the toy further and further away from her to encourage her to move forward, she was actively crawling by the weekend. 6.5 months is very early, but I have purposely kept her out of the exersaucer and jumperoo so that most of her time is on the floor. Those toys were great from 3-5 months to strengthen leg and back muscles, but they need to be on the floor exploring their environment. Some babies will never crawl, so don't worry, but I hear most start between 7-10 months. Enjoy this time as I'm running all over now that she's on the move.

Mine too! He hates his "tummy time". He does not roll over although he has in the past. He just loves to sit and play or stand holding onto me. Perhaps he's just going to skip the crawling and go straight to walking :)

My daughter will be 7 months old on 11/20. She is not crawling yet either. She does not like to be on her belly. This is my third child though so I am not in such a rush for the milestones. I know that she is capable of crawling, but just doesn't want to yet.

dont worry about it my daughter has been rolling over since she was 4 months old and she is 7 and half months now and still isnt crawling she gets onto her knees and shuffles and turns instead lol. they do get fussy at first but dont turn her back onto her back the frustration makes them learn as she will want to move. she will get frustrated as it is new to her. but all babys are different and they all do things at different stages, my partners cousin has just turned 1 and she only just started crawling. give her time and she will be fine. xx

I found that my son gets more tummy time when I find something he is interested in to play with while on his tummy. When he wants to he rolls over to his back or starts to fuss when he is tired of being on his tummy. Doing this has helped him get more tummy time. And doing it frequently throughout the day has helped. He now will lunge for toys and end up on his tummy and seems fine with it now.

My son just turned 7mnths and isn't crawling yet! Although he is very mobile by army crawling! lol He does sit up without assistance. Although he stands up on his own and walks with assistance holding 2 fingers! He loves it!! I was so worried about the crawling! Now I feel better about it hearing that other babies aren't crawling either! :o)

Yep yep! My daughter had her 6 month check up 2 weeks ago and her doctor said that's perfectly fine - my main concern at the time was that she's standing and wanting to walk everywhere instead of trying to crawl (which she also said was fine). Avery just started getting in crawling position and trying to move, but that's really only been in the last couple weeks.

AvaJoy will be 7 months on the 16th...and no crawling...she just rolls wherever she wants to go :D I figure one of these days she'll see something worth crawling for *heehee* Also my little sister (12 years younger) she never did crawl...she scooted around on her bottom... She HATED being on her belly we would put her down and she would put her face on the floor and sob ;-) So I think the main thing to keep in mind is what everyone else has said...they all develop at their own pace...Just enjoy being able to put baby down and know she'll be in the same place you left her :D

My daughter just turned 6 months on the 25th of Oct and isnt crawling yet either. She rolls all over and can now get up on all fours but hasnt figured out the leg movements yet. So dont fret! My 2 year old was just barely rolling at this point since she HATED being on her stomach. So even sisters have proved to do things at totally different stages!! Good luck!

My 6 month old is also just learning to sit on his own with no assistance. He rolls around the floor and kinda rolls to where he wants to get... slowly, but he isn't crawling yet either. When I put him on his stomach and try to position his legs and knees, he starts to laugh and just goes back down. I think it's very normal and your little one has plenty of time left to get the hang of it. Well wishes!!

Every baby is different. Some might be able to crawl by now while others might not even be able to sit up on their own. Babies reach their milestones in their own time. Don't worry! My oldest was around 9 months old before she started crawling and 6.5 months when she started sitting up on her own. My youngest is 6 months old and has been sitting up on her own for a month. Youngest still isn't crawling, but I know she'll get around to it. Enjoy that your daughter isn't mobile yet. It will flip your world upside down once she starts getting into EVERYTHING! :)

My daughter is six months and isn't crawling either. Her doctor says she just might skip it. She HATES being on her belly, after a minute or so she starts to cry and wail. Does your daughter like standing up? Try putting her in a walker. I know some moms are going to yell at me for saying that, but some babies just aren't crawlers. Mine loves to stand up so instead of giving her tummy time I give her stand-up time: I put her in her walker at least once a day. Her doctor said it was totally fine to do it like that, that she'll probably end up skipping crawling all together, and it wouldn't harm her in any way.

It's really a matter of each baby. Try to encourage tummy time by playing with her while she is on her tummy. Lay down in front of her and try to get her to look up and push up on her arms with a noisy toy. Also, to encourage the neuron development encouraged by crawling and give her a head start, do some cross-connective exercises. With her on her back, reach opposite hand to toe. Make it a fun game you play together. Oh, and also try not to lay her on her tummy right after eating. No one likes laying on a full tummy and that could be part of the problem. (And my 6 month old isn't crawling yet either. It usually happens between 6-9 months)

My daughter just had her 6 month check up and I talked to the doctor about the fact that she isn't even rolling over yet. She can sit up by herself and she will hold her head up quite high when on her belly. She does hate being on her belly and cries after a few minutes. The doctor put her on her belly, then sat her up and said, "She has the skill to do it, but she must lack the motivation. I am not worried, so long as she seems strong." In other words, my kids is lazy... Ha Ha. If I were you, I wouldn't worry about crawling yet - as long as she is strong and doing other things there seems to be nothing to worry about. Every baby has their own temperament and motivations.

My little Sara is 6 1/2 months and not crawling. She can roll and sit, but prefers to lay on her back. My pediatrician said to expect crawling sometime between 6 months and 9 months. I'm not sure she even wants to crawl, because she lifts her rear end up and straightens her legs into a V position and then pushes herself forward, or she'll just roll to where she wants to go. She also really hates to be on her belly and will only tolerate it for a couple of minutes. Every baby is different so don't stress. Your little one will make her own way. :)

it is completely normal doctors give milestones to give you ideas where babies should be so to say if she wasn't crawling by 10 months maybe be an issu but my baby is 6 months and a week and isn't crawling et they all hit milestones at different peeks she'll get it my little one is just learning to sit on his own
