There will be a lot of people that will probably disagree on this one, especially all the biased doctors out there, but something that really helps is a qualified kids masseuse (not sure how to spell it) my daughter is 8 months and my mother in law has massaged her twice and she is so unbelievably strong, she crawls, stands, wants to walk alone already! Even if your not sure, try it, but make sure this person knows what he or she is doing, they have to be so gentle on babies, doctors will swear against it but Selena is living proof of how awesome and good it is for them.

All babies develop at their own pace. Just because one may not be doing what others are doing at that age, doesn't mean there's anything wrong. She will crawl at her own pace. You never know.....she could be like my oldest daughter and my 8 1/2mo old son...they never crawled...just got up and started walking! Relax, enjoy her while she's little, and know that in due time, she'll crawl when she's ready!!

My baby is 9 months and he just started crawling. My older kids were crawling at 6 months. All kids are different so just enjoy your baby and let her move at her own pace.

hi, my daughter Alissa is 9 months and seems to have been at the stage of crawling for some time now but has not mastered it, she can move about though, to be honest all children develop at differeny times and having a 5 1/2 year old who was craling and pushing herself up by now just reinforces that they do things at different times and i love the fact that she is not quite there yet as they are not babies for very long and i plan to enjoy and savour ever last minute we are too stressed about what other people;'s children are doing and what all the books say, be positive kind regards maria

Hey, I wouldn't worry about it as others have said all babies are different. I never crawled as a baby and didn't like tummy time much as I had reflux. She will crawl in her own time or may go straight to walking and work out crawling later on. My son is almost 9 months now and really only started crawling in the last month. It is the comando type, he hasn't worked out to get on his knees yet.

My baby Jack started crawling on the day he turned 8 months. You really shouldn't worry about it. Enjoy the fact that she isn't helping herself into everything in your house :) It will happen when she is ready. Just give her lots of floor time to practice and toys to reach for.

My personal experience is to not to worry and let her crawl in her own time. Most babies skip crawling and start walking but will learn in their own time.

[deleted account]

She's just fine ! all babies just like adults are different . She'll crawl or not and go straight to try to walk you just never know ... as long as she gets quality floor time with you and your partner with toys and books she'll be happy :)

My son just turned 9 months old and isn't interested in crawling. He likes to scoot on his back and he likes to stand. If he's anything like his older brother he'll just skip crawling all together and try to pull himself up and eventually walk.

Some babies skip the crawling stage or dont stay in that stage very long...... i cant relate though. My daughter was rolling over at 2 months, crawling at 4 1/2. She is now 8 1/2 months and standing up constantly it seems like she will be taking sum steps soon. I would work with her and set toys close in front and have her on her tummy it willl be encouragment.... good luck

My daughter is eight months old too, and is not crawling yet. It's not a big deal...every baby is different and does things at their own pace. Some babies even skip crawling...I work at a day care center and have seen babies crawl as early as six months old to as late as ten to eleven months old. And some just start walking instead of crawling...no joke. Your daughter is perfect the way she is...don't push it, she'll do in her own time!!

When you say everyone, do you mean people who know absolutely nothing?

Your daughter is just fine. My little Ella is 8 months and 1 week and doesnt crawl, neither does she show any desire to. Apparently crawling can start as early as 4 months, but on average babies crawl at 10 months. My doctor said that most doctors dont even use crawling as a milestone since many babies dont ever crawl and go directly to walking, when they are ready.

my grandparents are always bugging me. telling me if I let her play on the floor she would be walking by now. Since when they are over they refuse to put her down, they fail to see that she is on the floor almost always inbetween feeds and naps. I just ignore them. I assume they forget what babies are like.

And for those without kids that bug, thank them for their unsolicited advice but since you get enough from experienced moms and doctors you have enough. And for those moms who compare, remind them how much you love the peace since she is not into everything yet. I always joke how I am preventing her from crawling :)

Your daughter is just perfect so don't worry. But if this is something you want her to learn sooner than later, let her play with children who have already mastered it. Often babies love to try to do what toddlers and older babies can do.

Good luck, and all the best in the new year.

I would ask your mother and mother-in-law... My 8 month old son still isn't crawling, and I was getting worried, so I said something to my mother-in-law, and she told me that my husband didn't crawl until he was a year old. She told me that he crawled for exactly one week before he learned to walk! My son is also very impatient. I think he just finds it easier to cry until someone carries him to where he wants to be...

Your girl is not late at all. Our son is 8 months old, and not crawling, but he's got time. Do encourage tummy time, so she can strengthen her muscles for crawling.

Hi my little girl is almost 9 months and isnt crawling yet either, she is almost there I guess. Im not 2 worried she will do it in her own time. Dont hurry her, when she is ready she will do it. Plus think of it as a bonus, you dont have to chase her around the house. :)

My son isn't crawling either. I am in no hurry either!! He rolls like crazy to get where he wants to go and it seems to work for him. My daughter never crawled at all...she walked right after her 1st birthday and learned to crawl later. I have a feeling my son is going to do the same thing. He does get on all fours and rocks back and forth but he knows he can get moving fast if he rolls or does the whole army man crawl! I wouldn't worry about it...besides it's easier for you to not be chasing her around!!

Each baby is different. It can't hurt to work with her, but she will crawl when she is ready. To work with her give her tummy time and put toys just out of reach so she has to scoot a little to get them.

I have twin girls -- my one twin is up on her hands and knees and crawling and pulling herself to standing. Her *identical* twin, is only rolling over with just the smallest hint of scooting. She'll pull herself to her knees, but does not get up on all fours and doesn't scoot or army crawl yet. She was sitting up without support earlier than her sister. They are individuals and do things when they are ready and within their interests.

My son doesn't crawl yet and he's 8.5 months old. He's working on it but not quite crawling. As long as she's doing what she's comfortable with, she's fine. I've known a few babies who didn't crawl until they were 11 months to a year old. Everybody's saying my son should crawl too but I say it's up to him. It's up to the child how they want to develop and when they want to learn to crawl and everything.

[deleted account]

My daughter is 8.5 months old and she isn't really crawling. I wouldn't even worry about it. Emma is a roller. She rolls to get everywhere she wants to go. Some babies skip crawling all together.

Hi, I would not worry. I have heard that the average age for crawling is nine months. And crawling like not a necessary developmental milestone. It's one of those things that some babies skip altogether. If your daughter has found a way to get around on her own she may just choose to stick with it. Lots of babies just roll. If you do want to encourage her you can try laying her on her belly and lating in front of her or put a favorite toy just out of reach. I wouldn't push it but it does give her the opportunity to try. I did that with my son but I would stop when he got frustrated. He just ended up doing it on his own. Even now he only army crawls. He gets on his knees and elbows and it works for him.

All babies do things in different times. Everything i have read or watched has said anywhere from 6mths-10mths. My niece didn't crawl properly til she was about 12 months and then walked a month later. My son is almost nine months and has been crawling (more like a catepillar) for about 2 months or there abouts. He has only just started to attempt proper crawling in the last couple of weeks. Just make sure your daughter has plenty of floor time and things that encourage her to move to. Throw lots of things on the floor around her. Donty panic it will happen then you'll wish it to stop (haha).

You know its probably nothing to worry about but, if you feel that something just isn't right then talk to your pediatrician. A mother's instinct is nothing to dismiss. But, your daughter is still within the normal range. So, don't worry too much. Babies develop at different rates.

my kids seem to do everything early. my littel girl started crawling at 6 mo. but like everyone says each child is different. like brandy says lots of tummy time. i have a nephew who almost 10 mo and is not crawling but his mommy is a first time mom and does not enforce the tummy time he cant even get up on his front arms with control yet. they need the tummy time no matter how much they hate it to have the proper growth of the sholders/rotator cuffs. they find that kids who do not get up on the front arms/hands and support themselves pay for it as teenagers. just make sure she gets a lot of tummy time no matter how much she hates it and cries the rest will come in time. tummy time is very important on o many levels of development.

My daugher is almost 9 months and started crawling at 6 months. My son, however, who is 3.5 years, didn't crawl until 10 months. We tried to encourage him and help him, but he didn't do it until he was ready. Then he didn't walk until he was almost 15 months. I was really concerned but now he is very athletic, well-coordinated, and top in his pre-school class. There are a lot of signs of delayed development aside from the major physical milestones. If crawling is the only (or biggest) concern, I am sure she is just fine.

Dont worry!! My son is 8 months and trying to walk lol but a friends baby who is only a couple weks younger still is not crawling. My son also hated tummy time, but the key to that is just having it in short spurts. Once he started rolling, he started getting alot more mobile. Another one of my friends has hard wood floors, and its harder for babies to get a grip on that, so her baby is not crawling yet either. Also remember, some babies skip crawling all together! It is not something to worry about at all :D

Maybe she'll skip crawling altogether or maybe she'll crawl in a month or 2. You never know. If she's hitting her other milestones, I wouldn't worry about it. If she's not, you could always get an eval. with your local Early Intervention people. Hope this helps.

my son is 8 months old and he just started crawling 2 weeks ago. and even now he goes 2 steps and sits and another 2 steps and sits. don't worry. it's all a function of the recommendation to sleep babies on their backs. if they could be on their tummies earlier like the way it used to be they would start crawling sooner. so now they just crawl closer to when they can stand or even walk. it's not a big deal. at least he is not getting into things. count your blessings.

Do not worry. I have 2 children. The first child (son) was crawling at 5 months old. My second child (daughter) was 7 months. I was concerned with my second as she always liked to be on her feet. So I thought maybe she would just go ahead a walk. But one day she started moving along the floor. It wasnt the real crawling (hand and knees) hers was more a bunny hop/catapillar. All babies/toddlers develop at the their own pace and before you know it, you will be chasing her.

Rachael,

First of all I have read when it comes to walking that the following rule of thumb seems to apply.

"Firstly, about 50% of all infants can "crawl" at 7 months; 75% can do so at 10 months and 90% of all infants have mastered it at 11 months. "

Also, every baby is different developmentally. Some babies never even crawl, some skip that stage all together and go right to pulling themselves and walking. My son, who was born April 8th, up till about a week ago showed no interested in crawling what so ever. Instead, he has been pulling himself up from a laying position to sitting, and then from sitting to standing. In the last week, he finally has started to creep a bit, when on the floor, and he is motivated to get after something he wants. I wouldn't be too concerned about your daughter, yet. But talk to your peditrician if you are worried.
