Need advice/information regarding Rice cereal...please help

My daughter is 4 months old and has been sleeping through the night since 2 months, however, just a few weeks ago she started getting really fussy at night (but not really waking up) and needed to be fed a little earlier than normal. I want to start her on rice cereal in her "before bed" bottle but I don't know how to start. How much cereal should I put in so many onces??? Also, anyone else start their children on rice cereal at 4 months???

Hi, My daughter started rice cereal at 3 1/2 months. I use the scooper that comes in the powdered formula. I add two scoops of cereal to 6 ounces of formula. Make sure you use a fast flow nipple. You may even have to make that a little bigger. She has had no problems with this. I also feed her oatmeal cereal in the morning from a spoon and a jar of veggies at lunch. Her doctor told me to do this at her 4 month check up.

My daughter is 4 1/2 months. I just started giving her about 2 tbls of cereal around 9-10am with her normal bottle, about 6 oz. then 2 tbls fruit or veg at lunch about 1-2pm with a bottle again 6 oz. and evening it depends, if she is fussy I don't give her anything but her last bottle and she sleeps through the night. But I sometimes give her same amount of cereal as the morning. The amount of cereal and fruit or veg depends on your baby. Just be aware how much they want before they just want their bottle and have had enough food. Don't forget they could also want food, then just a bit of formula then back to a couple spoonfuls of food again. One important thing, do not try to feed them food if they are very very hungry, that will just frustrate the baby because they are learning to eat. I hope this helps you, let me know how it goes ^_^

I started Liam on rice in his bottle at 4 weeks and put just enough in the bottle to thicken the milk but did put him on a thicker feef teet. From 3 months coz of his reflux it was necessary to start more solid feeds and had just a teaspoon to start in the evenings off a feeding spoon, He is now just goung on for 17 weeks and has 2 - 2 1/2 teaspoons morning and eve, and has pured veg about 1-2 teaspoons at lunch time. hope this helps. x

I bought a really awesome book from amazon.com called Food For Tots which has a lot of helpful tips about feeding your baby. It has helped me A LOT! Anyways, the book basically says to start rice cereal anywhere from 4-6 months or when they have doubled their birth weight, can sit up with support, and can grasp things in their hands. I'm not sure why but the book says to not cereal in the bottle at all. It recommends starting babies out with a couple teaspoons a day until they get used to it and gradually increase from there

my boy's been on rice cereal since he was four weeks old. when we first started all i did was put just enough in his milk bottle to sort of thicken it up, but he could still drink it from a regular nipple.
