Not having a period while breastfeeding is normal; I wasn't able to breastfeed; but my doctor explained to me before my delivery that if i was able to breastfeed my period would not come back for up to a year; but also you want to be careful because you can still get pregnant without a period....just some f.y.i. :)

My baby was born in early April and I still have no signs of my period returning. I asked my mom and she never got hers back, then she got pregnant with my sister over a year later. So she never had a period for like three years. Lucky her!!! I hope I have the same luck!

I just got my period this last month and my baby is 6 months old. I am still nursing my son and pumping at work. My first period was absolutely painful, maybe it's always been that way I just dont' remember it because it's been so long. I am also on an IUD which may have prompted the period and being painful too.
Just remember to be careful because you still could get pregnant.

I am also breastfeeding and haven't gotten my period back yet. It's very common and with my oldest I didn't get it back until he was about 9 months old. Just be careful because it's very easy to get pregnant again right now.

I am Breast feeding as well, and yes it actually to be expected. However you are still able to get pregnant, so be sure to use a birth control pill that does not slow your production. Enjoy this time too, lol!

With my oldest, I breastfed until she was 6 months old and didn't get my period unitl she was 9 months old. This time around, I had one around 6 weeks after my daughter was born and haven't had one since (baby is almost 6 months old).

Yes it is the breastfeeding. I'm loving the no period thing. I may pump until my son is 7 or 8 years old to keep this going !! Haha! But remember you do still ovulate, so you CAN get pregnant even tough you haven't gotten your period.

yes, im going thru the same thing, its because our body is telling us not to reproduce because we are already feeding our lil one, So its just our way of our body saying " we can't get prego because we have a lil to take care of" BUT i have heard of some mothers getting prego when they havent got a period and they had to stop breastfeeding right away because its bad for the unborn baby!!

Yeah, it's totally normal. In fact, although it's not recommended by doctors' you can use it as birth control until the baby is 5 months old as long as you follow a strict feeding schedule. BUt now that your child is 6 months and probably close to having solids or already on them, it's a bit trickier. My son is 5 mos and 2 weeks and feed him every 4 hours or so and I've had no signs of it yet. I'm just fine with it too! :)

A blessing from breastfeeding.

I'm nursing #3 now and don't expect my period for another 6 months at least. Hopefully she'll nurse longer than her big sib's.

#1 nursed till 12 months and my period returned shortly after he stopped.

#2 nursed till about 10 months and same thing, a little after she stopped nursing, my cycle returned.

this varies with different women but as long as you are breastfeeding and not supplementing with formula, you are likely to delay the return of your cycle. Enoy!

You're lucky - I am exclusively breast feeding and as started mine again 8 weeks after delivery. My mom had six kids and never had a period while breastfeeding - with my sister she went 13 months period free. The doctor was actually surprised I had started and was regular apparently what you are experiencing is more normal than not.

Hey Scarlett, this is completly normal, its hormones and your uterus contracting with the breast feeding. My daughters almost 6 months (April as well :)) old and im breastfeeding and my period started for the first time today :( hmmph. With some people if you keep up the breastfeeding and dont dwindle down on it you wont get a period until after you have stopped breast feeding. Mine has started back because my daughter gets a bottle at night so i dont pump before i go to bed anymore she also gets soilds. But its totally normal nothing to worry about :D

I wasn't able to breastfeed, so I don't know what you're going through. I have heard though that breastfeeding can make it so you won't get your period. I know my mother didn't have hers when she was breastfeeding me. If you're worried about, I'd say check with your doctor.
