Sippy cup's

my daughter is now 7 months...i bought her a Nuby sippie cup at 6 months. she owuldn't drink out of it at first with juice in it but i then put formula in her cup and she started drinking out of it

With my first DD, it took 6 months to get her to drink from a sippy. so I know I had to start #2 DD young. I give her a little water (a teaspoon at a time) in her sippy without a valve in it. She usually will dump in over and spill it out, but I want her to get to know that there is water in it. The hope is that eventually she'll start drinking from it and then when i add the valve back in, she'll suck hard because she knows she's supposed to be able to get a drink from it...

My baby never drank from a bottle but started drinking out of a regular cup at 4 mos with my help. It started when I would drink water while holding her and she would reach out for the cup so I started to give her a few sips. From there it was an easy transition to a sippy. She will drink out of any type of cup now and drinks from a straw as well.

i started the sippy with mine about a month ago and she did the same thing with hers....she'd spit it out afterward.....but i gave it some time, just gave it to her once a day around lunch/snack time and eventually the spilling stopped! just keep it up, i dont think its the type of cup.

I am not sure if this will help or not... Avent has a trainer sippy cup I have found them in sets of two in pink and green at our local grocery store, they are leak resistant and have a flat spout. We started using it with our son when he was almost 7 months old. We do not offer it at his bottle time but give it to him with cold water after or while he is eating his solids. We have been pretty successful. At first he wanted to chew on it and then he started to realize he had to suck on it (then he would open his mouth and let the water run out all over the place) and now he is actually drinking.

I also have started using the nuby sippy cup but he like to get mouth full and spit it all out so we only give him water as it gets messy. He doesn't get that he's suppose to drink it. :)

I had the same problem and have had success with a Tommee Tippee Nuby cup. They are half way between a bottle and cup, as it has a soft rubber teat on it.

My daughter will only use the sippy cups that have the straw coming out of the top. But I know a few babies who will use them also. Playtex makes some really great insulated ones and the straws can't be pulled from the top of the cup. She also love chewing on it when teething

My son (born on 4/15) just has a Nuby sippy cup half full of water on his play mat everyday. Every once in a while he picks it up and drinks some or chews on it. The Nuby cuppie barely leaks any water and he shakes, bangs, throws, etc that cup everywhere. But just having it around gets him used to the idea of having something throughout the day other than his bottle.

We had to try a couple of sippy cups before we found one that worked with our older son...I haven't tried a sippy cup with my seven month old yet...we're still working on getting him to do anything but breastfeed. :) Try to find a sippy that is similar to the bottle you are using...that may help. Or if your daughter uses a pacifier, find a sippy similar to that. Our son uses a soothie pacifier and a nuk pacifier, so we have a soothie bottle, and a nuk sippy cup that we'll try when he is interested. :) I wouldn't worry too much about it though, it's not essential to have them on a sippy at this point. :)
