My husband and I are from CA and we moved to texas when our son was born. We are both 21 so we are young and really dont have friends here with children and all our family is in CA! I feel bad that my sons first birthday is really only going to be me and my husband and my mom who offered to fly out for the celebration. But no one else wants to come. I feel really bad that his bday isnt going to be more special.. anyone else having this problem. I really want to make his day special!

Hi Katie, my husband and I moved to TX almost 2 years ago. Our whole family is on Guam. We have a couple good friends we've made since moving here, but we still opted to travel 14 hours to celebrate our son's 1st Birthday with family. Many of them have yet to meet our son, and my husband hasn't been home in almost 5 years. So it will be a great reunion/birthday party.

I do have to say...I agree with Mandy. Mommy and Daddy are the most important people in your son's life. If you are unable to travel back to CA, you can still make a great bday for your son in TX. Go way out on the cake, decorations, and balloons! Even if it is just you guys in the dining room, all the fuss will make the event more fun and memorable. Take lots of pictures too!

I hope I helped :)

PS: My husband and I are in San Antonio, welcome to TX!

You and your husband are the only ones that he really wants so he will probably prefer it. Most kids have stranger anxiety and a big group can be overwhelming so look at it as a blessing in disguise. It will be special no matter what b/c it is a huge first for him and you so enjoy! =)

my whole family lives in CA while my daughter and i live in PA so for her b-day, we're traveling to CA in 2 days and having an early celebration and then come home and have another with our friends

I am going to have a similar situation with my daughter. We just moved from CA out to FL where no family lives and her 1st birthday is one month away. It is ok we decided, because as long as she has fun and gets a little taste of cake that is what matters! I am going to put up sparkly things, bake some cupcakes and let her dig into one, put her in a pretty dress, take her to a zoo or something like that just to have fun...and take lots of pictures! Birthdays shouldn't be about having a huge party with lots of people, just some that love you and enjoy your time together, enjoy whatever you do!
