Is any body else weaning off of breast feeding. I started weaning freddie about three weeks ago and i'm finding it harder than him. went to a concert sunday night and by the time i got home i felt like someone had thrown a bucket of water over me!!! Any advice???

I tried to wean my son off breastfeeding at 4 weeks old... but he actually preferred a bottle and formula, so I ended up going cold turkey to formula. It was really difficult and painful for about 3 days. I used icepacks during the day in my bra every few hours for about 15 minutes at a time. I also wore a really tight sports bra. When I showered I made sure it wasn't too warm because I didn't want to encourage any milk expression. I also was told (by my doctor and the public health nurse) to cut back on my fluid intake. I also wore (and changed very often) nursing pads for leakage. The first 2 nights I woke up soaking wet, but the engorgement and the pain only lasted 3 days and then it eased up. Hope that helps!

Most doctors encorage nursing or brest feeding your child until about one year of age. My oldest son I nursed until about 10-11 months of age, at that time it was very natural for his nursing frequency to decrease because he was eating and drinking so many other things, plus he was too busy to stop just to nurse. Soon he was only nursing before bed and at night, eventually his mid-night time feed was replaced with a drink of water.
It was a very natural and gradual thing, my son did not feel stressed by the process, and I did not suffer from engorgement.
