My daughter's first birthday is coming up and everyone want to know what to get her. We have SO much stuff for her so i'd really want things that are worth it (especially the bigger toys that take up so much space and the more pricey electronic toys). We love the "laugh and learn" line of toys to give you an idea. But i'd love or her to have something new so i was hoping you ladies could tell me YOUR BABY's favorite/essential toys!! Thank you!

Hi Louise,

My DS has a icecream ride on truck that he got from my grandparents. It's a leapfrog toy and has English, Spanish and French. We only have the English setting on the toy and its the only leapfrog toy he owns.

My little brother is 2-yes my little brother! Anyway, we go to my dads a lot so Logan plays wit all of my brothers toys. He loves his Leap Frog Learn & Groove Musical Table & Fischer Price Laugh & Learn Puppy. Here's a great link:

My son loves his leapfrog learning table, his walker car, and his ball pit. He also has two rolly toys that he can chase after and he really likes this one I got at Walmart which has a monkey sitting on top and makes funny noises.

BOOKS! are my children's essential/favorite belonging. Lots of board books for a 1yo.

My dd's favorite toy right now is anything that jingles- at church there are some egg shaped rattles with a nice melodic bell tinkling sound. I plan to get her something like that for her 1st b-day. She also LOVES flipping pages of books like she sees her brother and sister doing.

Our baby is #3 so we won't be getting a lot of toys for her- clothes are always a good reply when people ask what to get. Let them know what size you don't have a lot of so they can buy for her to grow into. Your house can quickly be overrun with seldom played with toys but you can never have too many books IMHO. My 5 and 3yo have had books around them and read to them since they were babies and now, can't go to sleep unless they have a stack of books to look through in bed with them.

Hi Katarina. Leapfrog toys are one of my favourites here but I have never seen bilingual ones. Both my kids play with them. My older boy is 4 and a half and he loves his brothers toys but he also has the things for hi age. Leapster tag books etc.

My son (April 5th) loves anything with wheels, balls and tupperware! I really love the vtech toys, they're really neat and make cool noises and sounds. I refuse to let him play with anything bilingual(Leap frog toys are a no no). I just feel that he should work on one language first. Ummmmmm also, any of those treehouse cartoon toys that DON'T really speak(sort of like the teletubby deal) I don't like either.

My daughter's favorite go to toy is the Melissa and Doug Band in a Box. The electronic toys captivate her for 5 minutes, but she loves her musical toys. I am also going to give her a Bilibo for her 1st birthday, we'll see how she likes it.

As i said to another mother on another post. 3 drink bottles one with rice in it one with water and one with peas. And a box with sections that are filled with balls. Also the laugh and learn piggy bank is what he's getting for his birthday

Expensive toys are for the parents and not the kids as they don't like or dislike something based on price. We have some fairly expensive toys still in boxes as the kids didn't like to play with them.
A fave for me would be a push along wagon with bricks in the bottom or some kind of age appropriate lego or something.

I have tons of those silly electronic toys. I was so excited when we got them. My little Ella has not the slightest interest in them. The toys that get the most use for my 11 month old are the blocks, balls and flipping through board books while listening to her children's song cd.

My son is fascinated my wheels and balls. They keep his occupied for ages! its his birthday on the 16th April and we are going to buy him some big trucks with big wheels and a push along walking toy as he isn't walking yet but he tries so we thought this would be a good idea. All the best :)

Nancy will be 1 April 15th and she loves anything with lights and sounds. She will be occupied with them for hours. With summer coming your baby will need outside toys to play with like cars and trucks (big ones made for 1yr).
