My DD got constipated as soon as I introduced "solid" foods into her diet after 4 months old. We are still dealing with it with diet (avoiding rice, bananas, applesauce) and adding whole wheat toast and green beans, pears, etc water, juice.Other than diet we also occasionally have to use liquid suppositories and a prescription liquid medicine 2x/day that helps to draw water into the lower bowels to make it easier to have a BM. The doctor says the baby can go off and on this medicine and use it for extended periods with no ill side effects. We're on our second bottle.

There are many things you can try. Dark Karo syrup works well, about a teaspoon, also the baby glycerin suppositories. I have also done prunes which work like a charm also. :-)

My daughter suffers from this as well, and the pediatrician recommended pears, prunes, peaches, and plum. Also she suggested a bottle of juice each day and it does not have to be diluted. I eliminated the rice cereal and bananas as they were the cause of her issue. Also tried the suppositories and those help as well but you do not want to use those too often as the body will become dependent on then and the bowels will become lazy.

My daughter has to drink soy and it consipates her, I was recommended by her pediatrician and older family members to put up to 2 teaspoons of light corn syrup to each bottle. The clear one.

Also, offer lots of fluids as dehydration can cause constipation.

Syrup of figs works if you can get your lo to drink it! On an alternative route, my auntie is trained in reiki and says that the palm relates to this, get your babys hand and trace a circle on the palm like "round and round the garden" only with slightly more pressure. My 3 yr old used to have problems going and this worked for her. She also found it relaxing.

My pediatrician put my child on Miralax. 2 tsp. a day in one of her bottles. It works great and she hasn't had a problem since. It is a natural laxative so they can be on it long term. I tried everything from juice to baby laxatives and nothing worked. This has been a life saver for me and her. You can also put it in juice or water it dissolves in a matter of seconds and they can't taste it.

try pure orange juice diluted with water. This has worked great for both my children even from 3 months. One once juice to 4once water works well.

if you are using formular you may find this causes it - my son is on SMA blue which I have since discovered has a bad reputation for clogging up little bodies, but I have heard that people who switched to Aptimil?? found it much kinder on thier wee ones and solved the problem

My baby used to get constipated all the time. I did all the right things (gave lots of the right fruit and veg etc) also gave 2oz water extra a day. Nothing was working. Then I started making a food diary of what she was eating and drinking and what her stools were like each day. I soon found a trigger - every time she had baby porridge she got constipated. I took this out of her diet and she has been fine for weeks. She can have 'adult' porridge now which has more fibre in so i will try this next week. It may be a certain food that doesnt agree with her. Its worth a try if it carries on.

Glycerin suppositories are what my Pediatrician recommended for my baby & they work well when I need them. Prune juice works well also mixed with a little bit of water.

Prunes, prunes and more prunes! When we first started solids it really bound my boys up and prunes did the trick within a few hours. They were also on a sensitive system formula and are now on regular and that really helped too. I give them prunes now about 2 times a week just to keep stuff moving- lol. I also give them a little apple juice at breakfast when they get rice cereal.

when mine was 2/3 months old started to become constipated. I followed the pediatrician's advise to put 1 oz of filtred water and 1 oz of juice (pear/prunes) in a bottle to drink. He had a bowl movement in couple hours and the problem was resolved in a matter of few days.

if you are breastfeeding thenit is not unusual for you baby to go 2 days or so wo number 2
try to avoid giving any medicine or other oral or anal treatments these could cause an allergic reaction or be too harsh for your little ones tummy

When my baby was constipated my doctor explained that is normal for babies to not go number 2 that often, sometime babies take all the nutrients u give him and dont need to go number 2. But in case he/ she is constipated you can give him prunes, you can massage his belly on circular motion, also you can take your baby's anal thermometer and massage gently in circles to estimulate him to push and go to the bathroom, you dont have to go far, just the tip of it, this wont hurt ur baby. Hope this helps

I agree with the above but we have also been adding a half teaspoon of flax oil to one meal a day and that has worked great! My MIL also suggested adding a little blackstrap molasses to one meal a day, I haven't tried it yet though. Good luck!

Well my son was constipated on and off for about a month or two and what we did was get him the little glycerin supositories and gave him one after him not going for 4 days and he went within 2 hours. Also we increased his fiber intake. Prunes, peaches, pears, and green beans are good to get them going, whether its just mushy babyfood or the read deal. Try juice and water too, they work nice if your child will drink it(mine wouldn't). If the problem continues call the ped. Oh and stay away from rice cereal, bananas, and applesauce, those tend to constipate hence they are on the BRAT diet for stopping diarrhea!
