I bath my baby once a day. I have noticed that some parents don't believe this necessary. What are your thoughts? I feel it is soothing for baby to have a nice warm bath before bed.

My 9 month old son gets a bath every night before bed, he has Exzama badly and the doctor said this was necessary.

Hi Cindy, our son is almost 2 and we give him a bath everyday because he loves the bath and ask for it. When he was younger we would give him a bath every other day. Only because it would dry his skin out even though we used lotion. Do what works for you and if your baby likes it then do it everyday.

When my daughter was first born I gave her a bath everyday and slowly went from every day to every other day! Occasionally I will wait two days but only if she falls asleep before I have a chance to give her a bath and if that is that case then i will bathe her first thing the following day. During the summer months I will bathe her more frequently because of the heat and sweating. She is now almost 10 months old and is getting bathed every other day. After her bath she will get a baby massage with baby lotion.

As a mother of three (13, 8, & 2 yr. olds) bathing everyday is very important. when they are babies, I bathe them up to 3-4 times a day; before bedtime a MUST so they get a restful night sleep. Kids learn the importance of personal hygiene and become comfortable with their own sense of cleanliness. My two youngest children have eczema, but I moisturize their skin after every bath and put their medicated lotion on also. As per my discussion with my kids pediatrician, (because I was worried that I would exacerbate their conditions), I tried bathing them every other day, but the end result on the skin was the same and my children were uncomfortable with the lack of bathing. However, I did indeed notice that after they turned 5, their conditions improved. It only gets bad when their asthma is bad.

I don't bath everyday. My kids, as others have posted have eczema and their skin dries out too much if bathed every day. They are however growing out of it...yippeeee! If they are grubby, sweaty or have sunscreen on etc. I would bath them each day, but otherwise every second day. Depends on the kid and the day. :)

I give my LO baths every other day and wipe downs on the days he doesn't take a bath and he's 10 months. Only because he has very bad eczema and taking baths dries his skin out no matter how much oil and lotion we use. Once that starts to clear up i would like to get back to everyday because he definitely loves the water lol

I bathe every night.I started it as a bedtime routine and he loves his bathes he has never shed a tear in the bath as long as he's been here and he's 9 weeks old. I apply lotion after the bath and he falls right asleep after his bath. I have noticed if I can't give him a bath he has a hard time settling down and getting to sleep. Babies sleep alot easier when there is a routine in place:)

i give my son (11 months) a bath every other day and my daughter (4 yrs old) gets a bath every night... for my son its because he smells like sour milk and he drools alot and for my daughter because she loves playing with her bath toys and it relaxes her before bed time.

When I had my first son, now 5, they advised not to bathe them every day and now after my second son, 10 months old they say there is no reason why you can't bathe them every day (they "lived" in water for 40 weeks). Anyway, I bathe my kids every other day unless they're exceptionally dirty or sick and I feel they need to relax.

My son will be 9 months at the end of this month... & since i've started him on foods... he gets a bath twice a day. sometimes he just gets a morning bath. sometime he just gets a bed time bath. He poops at least twice a day... & it stinks... & goes up his back A LOT of the time... which is another reason why he may get 2 baths a day... But every baby is different. Best answer is ask your doctor.

I give my 9 month old twins a bath every night after dinner. During the day they are all over the floor and playing with our dogs so I feel it's neccessary in my case. They also love bath time and playing in the water. I really think it's a matter of what works best for you.

I think it depends on the parent, child, and day you have had. If there just isn't time and the kid isn't dirty it's ok to skip. If the kid really thrives on routine (some do and some don't) then I would keep to it best I could. I think it really is a to each their own situation. My Dr. says that daily isn't "needed" but can help with routine thrivers (parents and kids alike), unless of course if the baby is dirty, then bathe away...lol

I bath my 3 kids every day. My second child has excema and bathing him does dry his skin out but I have been given a bath additive to add moisture to his skin. I also use an organic bath wash to clean them. I believe its good for them to bath everyday. Its a good habit to get them into, just like brushing your teeth.

Hi, twice a week is enough. Babies dont really get dirty until they are more mobile and or weaning. My daughter loved bathtime but hated having her hair washed so we bathed twice a week and washed hair once a week. so the other bath was for cleaning whilst playing. My son suffered from dry skin made worse after bathing so he too has a bath twice a week. A wash and brush teeth before breakfast and bed is more than enough between baths. I did consider the bath before bed to relax routine but neither of my children relaxed, just played and so now we do bath in afternoon/evening then get ready for bed and have tea and that works for us. Hope this helps. Sara

Since the day both my boys came home from the hospital it was a bath everyday and hair wash every 2nd day. My oldest had exzema as a baby and we still bathed everyday. He will get it in the winter but i just use exzema cream on him and he's fine. I like to shower everyday so i do the same to my children. We were always bathed everyday as kids as well. I found my babies did get dirty from spitting up and there was nothing worse than holding a baby smelling of puke. Nothing better than snuggling your baby when their all clean and smelling of baby powder..:)

I think it depends on how old, active he is and what he gets into. Our son LOVES the bath! I was giving him a bath every other or 3 days. He has really sensitive skin so his skin was becoming really dry but just had to lather him up in extra lotion Everyday hes been crawling to it and pretty much hinting that he wants to take one. And I basically have to make him get out. He could stay in there all night if Id let him! Plus Ive been using bedtime bath wash and I think thats helped calm him before bed. Not matter what I doubt bathing him everyday will harm baby

yes for the first few weeks of life that is true, but not long term, and lets just consider what they said to wash every day.... the most sensitive parts of the body... so yes its ok to wash every day.

They said on the doctors you should only bath your baby twice a week. It is not good for their sensitive skin and they dont need it.. They said just wash their face, hands and bum everyday.

its most certainly not necessary, but it is very healthy and when incorporated into a bedtime ritual, can help a baby to very quickly settle to sleep. I bathe my baby girl every night, and find that this is a wonderful time to calm her down, use up the last of her bubbly energy, raise her core body temperature, and clean her before giving her a breastfeed n putting her to bed. We use a soap free product - Dermaveen - as my children suffer from skin allergies, and water is what our body is made of mostly, so it wont cause any concerns for skin irritations...its ph neutral too.... so never feel judged for doing it, or not doing it....either way you are caring as best as you can for your darling.

Babies with dry skin or excema are recommended not to bathe daily, My son is 10.5months and I bathe him in the morning after breakfast (cause he is a peanut butter sticky mess) and again at night time after his dinner, cause he gets it everywhere and loves his bathes. After his evening bath, he has play time with nappy off time and loves it and wears himself out before he has pj's, feed and bed. I know i feel better and fresher after a bath and fits into our routine so we continue with it but agree that it is easier to do what suits your household, good luck

My son gets a bath when he's dirty or we have somewhere nice to go and I want to make sure he smells clean! :) He just had a bath this afternoon...he was needing one anyway and then decided to eat dog food and had it everywhere...GROSS!!!
I think its a total parent/kid preference thing!! No one should be judged for doing it one way or another. If it works for you and your baby..FABULOUS!!!

I usually give my 10 month old a bath everynight. This is mainly because he loves bathtime! And because I love the way he smells after a bath, all fresh and clean :) My son loves to play in the water and splash about - especially when he and mummy having splashing competitions, or when he splashes mummy big time and mummy reacts with a squeal and pretends to fall off her little stool...he thinks it's hilarious. Haha. I love it too. There might be one night a week where we wont do bathtime, and that's usually because one of us, or both, are just to tired after a long busy day. I also find he does settle a lot quicker after a bath. It's whatever you feel works for and is right for your little bubba. Bath time is a fun time for my son and I so everyday works for us! :)

I bathe my girls (2 yrs and 10 months) together every other night during winter. Their skin gets dry otherwise. I only use soap on the baby every other bath as she is not overly dirty unless she has gotten food on her. In the warmer months I tend to bathe more every night since we are out playing most of the day. I think it's more of a personal preference thing.

I give my 10 month old son a bath every night. It is not because he particularly dirty, but more of a whined down type thing at night. He gets he dinner (solids), a bath after because solids do get messy, plays a while, then he gets a bottle and goes to bed. If we skip a part of his routine he is a bear to deal with so we stick to it. So I do not think it is a bad thing if you bathe them every day. If they do not require it as part of their routine then a few times a week is all that our pediatrician says that they need. Do what ever feels best to you.

I was told that until they start crawling, then bathing only 1-2 times a week is fine and until they start walking outside, it's still fine to only wash them about 2 times a week as babies don't get that dirty. I was told wipes are great for in between maintenance. Also, bathing everyday, especially during dry winter months can dry their skin out. The choice varies baby to baby and parent to parent.

From what I have found, most mothers, including myself, do not bathe their babies every day because it dries out their skin. However if it's not happening to your child, I really wouldn't worry :)

My kids who are 10 mo and 6 yrs get baths everynight more because they love the water in general and because it helps soothe them to sleep and to get comfy. I think it is more of a personal preference. When my oldest was a baby he had really bad skin issues so we did every other day but they love the water so its different for the both of them

some babies actually will be stimulated by bath before bedtime, so it's really up to each family to find out what works for them.

I bath both my children everyday and always have. We live in the tropics so it gets hot and sweaty which is part of the reason but I like routine with my children. Also I like to shower everyday because it makes me feel clean and fresh so why shouldn't I do the same for my children? Both my son and daughter love to play in the water and I find it a nice chance to interact with them
