I feel like I'm a cow being milked all day long, lol!!! and because I'm being milked all day long I can never pump more then an ounce or two to bring along with me to my sons baseball/soccer games & practice ;( so I always end up having to whip my boob out anyway...back to square one!!

Nothing wrong with nursing at the games :-D We haven't even bought any bottles yet... waiting until Zavier is 4 months old (for when he stays with a sitter so we can go out lol).

Also... 2 ounces is considered a good amount in pumping.. any more and your lucky. Odd advice if you want more though... put baby on one side and pump the other, seriously you'll get more out that way!

I definantly overproduce...my baby did NOT for some reason want to nurse in the first week he was born, and since i was overproducing i couldnt even pump it fast enough and i got mastitis! Now he eats like a COW!! lmao! But, even at first, i couldnt pump more than an ounce or two...it started hurting reall bad... and i do only nurse out of one breast and my production has not slowed down any at all..When ya'll are nursing, does your other breast leak really bad??

try pumping the remainder of your milk after each feed...it should create a greater supply to store and increase your daily milk supply. also, you can try old fashioned malted milk shakes as well as some herbal teas which help with milk supply. the more you pump, the more your milk supply should increase so be careful not to overdue it. good luck!

i had the opposite problem too much milk supply and ended up with mastitis. One thing the baby nurse told me was to express about 30ml first then feed my baby this ensures the baby is getting the fat milk not the sugary milk at the front which causes gas. The fatty milk will keep them satisfied longer and ensure they put on weight. Too increase your millk supply just express in between feeds, the more you feed or express the more supply you will have. It takes about 20 mins for your breasts to fill up again. Try and empty the entire breast then move onto the other one when feeding. If they won't take it then express that breast. By emptying the breasts they will increase the supply. Just what i've been told.

I finally figured out my poor baby was not getting enough to eat. Now that I look back at the details my breasts have not as big lately probably due to lack of rest and food. Mistakes were made and I hope I learned my lesson well enough for this to never happen again!

I had the same problem with my son. He is 7 wks and we are getting better at this nursing thing. I think he just wanted to nurse all the time for comfort. I started feeding him from one side and pumping the other side. Then next feeding, I would swap breasts. I am back at work, so I am still pumping on the weekends to build up a freezer stash. I started out only being able to get 1-2 oz from each breast every few hours. Now I can get about 2-4 oz from each breast. I think the constant feeding and pumping is helping my supply come in better. I did get some "More Milk Plus" vitamins, but I have not taken any since I've been making more. Good luck!

I know what you mean! I feel the same way, but it's so worth it!

If you're looking to increase your milk supply you can take Fenugreek, but it has the unpleasant side effect of making you smell like maple syrup. LOL!! There's also Mother's Milk Tea that will help boost your supply, as well as just making sure you are drinking lots of water, and of course getting as much rest as you can (HA! Like this really happens for us new moms!).
Drinking a beer will help boost your supply, any type of yeast will, Brewer's Yeast is good, but it tastes terrible. Getting yeast through drinking a beer is much tastier! Our Ped is the one who actually recommended it for me in the beginning when our LO was having weight issues and we were trying to figure it out. Your body will metabolize the alcohol before it gets to your milk supply, there's not enough alcohol in one beer to make a difference. If I'm going to have one, I just make sure to have it with dinner, and I drink lots of water with it, because it's also a diuretic, and can cause you to lose water, which is essential to making milk. It sure does work though, the next morning I can usually pump out a good 4 oz AFTER I feed her. Hefeweizens are really good because they have a lot of yeast, and are made by a more natural process. I've never had any issues with it bothering my daughter either. She doesn't spit up at all.

I think you were thinking of the Guinness beer for pregnant women, they supposedly tell pregnant women who are further along in their pregnancies to drink a Guinness for the iron. Luckily we have vitamins for that!
And also the more you pump/nurse the more you'll make, but like a previous poster said, it will get harder and harder to pump milk out. I got to a point with my older daughter where I couldn't pump anything out, but she was still eating plenty when she nursed. My body just wouldn't let down for the pump.

Good luck!

Um...I did not say drink beer!!! lol brewer's yeast is the vitamin content consumed by the (later killed) yeast during the beer making process. There are NO vitamins left in the beer. That is why the dried, inactive (dead) yeast is so rich in the B vitamins (and others) absorbed from the hops. Drinking alcohol will actually make your milk intolerable for your baby's stomach and will make your baby spit up.

FYI - nursing on both sides each feeding will increase supply, nursing on one side will decrease it.

However, once your body is used to baby nursing, you may never have great success with pumping (it does not "nurse" the same).

I read an article that tells you to pump a little after your baby is done feeding..it will increase your milk supply

Ouch through nipple confusion and now I do about half and half. half bottles half boob. Honestly, I think he will forgive me..I hope ;) This way daddy helps more. He does get gassy more though.. the downfall..but we work out the kinks :) Yes, he feeds and feeds and feeds if I let him on the boob! Thank God for Sleep!!

The last post that mentioned brewer's yeast is correct...drink a beer on the days you need more milk...there isn't enough alcohol in one beer to effect the baby, but your supply will increase from it. It works like a charm!

Milk Thistle increases milk supply, as well as brewer's yeast and greens supplements.
