So my little boy, born 13/04 is 69cm long and weighs 8kg. I'm receiving so many comments on his height/weight and am hoping there is another mum out there with a "big" baby too. We met a 10 month old today and he was bigger than her !!

Born 10/4/2010 he is now 10.7kg
Everywhere we go people are like How old is he? And i reply his age 'now nine months' and they reply with 'WOW WHAT A BIG BABY!.. is he really only that old? '
The other day someone thought my baby was at least over a year and told me off for not teaching him to wave, say hi, do things that a over one year old should be doing!
I had to remind them he is only nine months!

hi Amy. I get the same thing except i was told by the clinic that she should way more. She weighs 8.5kg's at the moment. Not sure about the height tho, could be more then 69cm but she's bigger than most 1 year old i know. Her father is tall and my dad was tall so she's bound to be quit tall. I wouldn't worry about it if i were you. Some babies are big and some are small. But i get it alot from people "she can't possibly be 9 months old"...i actually feel kinda proud. And she's starting to walk so...

to tell u the truth i think our babies are quite small considering there are much bigger babies out there !

Everyone always tells me my son is fat. Not being mean to him just saying that he's a little tubby i guess. When he was born he weighed 8lbs even. I had gestational diabetes while I was pregnant with him so I guess that is why he weighed that much. But now he's about to be 6 months old and weighs around 20lbs now. Is that really 'fat' for this age? I admit his cheeks are a little chunky but he doesn't have huge fat rolls or anything. Lol. I think he's just tall for his age and thats where the weight comes from. But I'm only 5ft4 and his daddy is MAYBE 5ft7 so I don't know where he could get the tallness from. Lol

and my son at 2 years is still tall: at 2 1/2 he was 1 meter tall and 16.75 kg. People often make the mistake to think he is older... and I just simply reply that somethings are difficult when you are only 2 1/2.

Hi there :-) my daughter born april 14th is my little giant :-). September 8th she was 69.5 cm and 7265 gram... but I expect her the have gained quite some weight in the past few months as she was not getting enough breastfeeding in august, the poor thing. Switched to bottles in september but started early with more solid food, because she was still looking the food out of my mooth. Now she eats with us little stuff and is completely happy (instead of crying everytime we were eating). Are you both tall as well?? Anyway, every child has his/her own growth path. So no guarantee he'll stay tall :-).

my son sounds exactly like yours, even to the birth date, he is almost 6 months and is 8kgs... his sister, at almost 19 months is 9.2kgs.... and their 11 month cousin is 11kgs, dont worry what others say, as long as your son is healthy and happy what more could you ask for? :)

We have a friend who's baby is 9 months and mine is a giant next to her. I used to get upset but now i figure they come in all different shapes and sizes!! I had the opposite issue my daughter was born in april weighing just over 2.5kg (5lbs 4 oz) and everyone comment how tiny she was. Her dad is a big guy and weighed over 10lbs at birth I weighed 7lbs 9 oz at birth. Bubba is now 5 months old and weighs just aver 7kgs. It doesn't matter whether they are big or small people always have something to say so long as your son is a healthy happy bundle of joy who cares what comments people make... congrats to you and your family

My son was born the 29th april and was 9.2kg and 67.5cm long at 4 months. the midwives told me that i should only feed him 180mls of formula every 5 hours and absolutly no solids before 6 months. both his dad and i are good sized ppl and he has always been a hungary baby. as soon as he starts movng around more some of the weight should come off.

I understand! Both of my boys are/were big at birth - over 9 lbs, the one born in April is now 21.6 lbs at 4.5 months. The pedi says he is the largest baby they've had in the practice (for his age), but also say he is a very healthy (exclusively) bf baby. :-)

my daughter is only four months old and weighs the same as my best friends one year old size is not a problem it just depends on their growth every baby is different my best friends daughter was a premie they stay small and my daughter was born almost ten lbs so it just depends on the child u can never judge by size

do not worry bout it as long as doctor say he is in normally growing though his weight is over than his age. Mine too, my boy was born on April 11th, his weight now is 9.6kg. since he was born, i find that it's easier to help him to have a bath cos it's bigger. yeahh, everyone say my baby is very big, like older baby..i'm just fine..u must too...

My son was 8lbs 7oz and 21in at birth (April 2010)...at his 4 month check up he was 17lbs and 27 in. His brother was always in the 95th percentile for weight and 25th for height. Looking at my 5 year old now he is skinny and tall. I am not too worried about it, because I know that I am feeding them both healthy foods. It does hurt my feelings when people say anything, but I would rather them say something about him being big than say something about him not looking healthy. I even have a name I call him...He's mommy's "Sweet Meat"

Genes play a strong part in determining how big a child grows. Also, how well they are feeding, and how well they are sleeping play a determining factor as well. I wouldn't stress. As long as he is happy and healthy, that's all that matters. I'm glad my little man is big. He's in size 0 clothes which is for 6-12 month old babies and he'll be 5 months on the 13th :) He's also taller and heavier than the 15 month old that lives across the street from us. Genes play a factor in it too :) I have a very tall husband and a very tall father. My daughter is substantially taller than most kids her age as well. But she is strong, healthy, vibrant and active. So is my little man :)

Hi :-) I'm so happy I found this thread. I a mum to a lovely girl, who was born on 24/04/10 and when she was exactly four mths she weighed 17.63lbs (8kg), and measured 69cm. I am constntly told by the people around me that she is basically too fat. Even GP said she is obese. And I don't agree with it - she is not fat, she is just a big, healthy baby. She is on 91st centile with weight and 97th with height. I would say she is obese if she was on 50th centile with height. But she is long and her height is in line with her weight. She looks older the other children in her age, but she is also more alert, more clever - and it's not only my opinion. I don't know, sometimes i'm a bit fed up with people's comments. My mum keeps saying that they are jealous, cause she is such a big, lovely baby, with black hair and big eyes, and that's why they comment. :-)

Good I'm not the only mum of such a big baby. :-)

My daughter was born on the 13th April as well she was 8lb 4oz when she was born. At her last weigh in which was when she was 17 weeks old she was 16lb 11oz and was 65cm in length . She has been on the 91st centile for both weight & height since she was 13+ weeks. I also have had comments from people saying that she was too heavy for her age, i voiced my concerns to my health visitor who told me not to listen to these people and that her height averages out her weight, she also told me that she thinks my little girl was going to be tall. I wouldnt worry about ur son's weight as soon as he is more mobile it will drop off, next time someone says something about it say..... Yes i av a beautiful big healthy boy that im very proud off

Every kid is different. Don't let the size of different babies worry you. They are just little versions of grownups and you can see how we are all different. My first son is a peanut and considered small for his age, my second is big and completly opposite. He will even out as he grows, they change so much and soo fast.

Hi. My youngest was born on 21/04 and is 9.7kg (21 1/2 lb) and about 64 cm. He's on the top centile for weight and but under the 98th for height. He was 9lb 13oz when born (about 4.45kg) so he's a bit of a bruiser!! At just over 4mths, he weighs the same as his older brother did at 9mths!!
