My son does not sleep much day or night and I am up most of the day, feeling so crap, tired and fed up! I feed him 3 times a day, at around 8-8.30 am, 12-12.30pm and at 5-5.30 pm.But he does not sleep through the night, wakes up 4-5 times a night. I think he becomes hungry in-between his meals. Does any one else feed more than 3 times a day? Should I feed him something extra before bed or bath? Do you give your baby snacks? I dont in case he doesnt eat the main meal! But maybe I should?

My 7 month old (who has reflux) gets all his bottles with heavy cereal a heaping teaspoon per ounce but he get a bottle in the morning, a jar of baby food around noon, another bottle around 330, another jar of baby food around 6 and than usually another bottle around 8 or 9, and the only time he's woke up in the middle of the night for a feeding is when he's having a growth spurt

Hi there,
My son just turned 7 months old and has had a great routine for feeding/naps since 4 months old.
Wakes at 8
tummy time/read/playpen
cereal with fruit and a 6 oz bottle of formula
11 am - nap
12:30 pm -
playtime with mommy or shopping/errands
meat, veggies and fruit with a 5-6 oz formula bottle
3:00 pm - nap
4:30-5 pm -
wakes for playtime
meat, veggies and fruit with 6 oz bottle - if we are eating dinner after he is done eating, he sits in his highchair with us at the table and has a Mum Mum cookie...... he likes being with us at the table.
more playtime until 7:30
THE MOST IMPORTANT PART:
Bedtime Routine:
Bath - with Johnson's Bedtime Bath products (bubbles and shampoo) plus baby wash - wash and playtime in the tub. Massage with Johnson's bedtime lotion - clean PJ's - quietly speaking with him.
Book - read a short book with baby and point out all the pictures - quietly
Bottle - 7 oz bottle of formula and cuddle with Mommy
Bed - by 8:30/9:00 pm he is down the count until 12 hours later when we start all over again!!!

He's been using this nighttime routine for 3 months now and has only woken once during the night - and that was when I sneezed in his room and scared him!
Poor little bugger........

This routine is amazing and WORKS! My little guy is proof!!!

yes my daughter is 7mths too. I feed at 7am then at 10 ish then at around 2pm and again at 5-6 pm and then at 8-9pm.... she gets 5 good feeds, and is also having solids after a breast feed at breaky lunch n tea. She sleeps through most nights from 10pm to 6am at least, and some nights 8 pm to 7am... the secret is to feed them up in the day time.... so they are really full. Keeping breastfeeding the priority and solids as the back up, will help . My baby sleeps from 10am to 12 and 2pm-4pm approx. in the day... I make sure the breakfast and the dinner are both good solid foods, with loads of carbs (rice based) to fill up the tummy.

Oh Adisha- we share the same child. I feed my daughter three times per day plus breast feeding 25 oz per day. Last night she awoke 6 times. I don't think more food is the answer. I don't know what is- I just know I am exhausted!
My daughter cat naps in the day- she must be tuckered out too.
If you find any answers, please share with me.
Best wishes!

Give things a try, go see a Doctor if you are worried or concerned that something is bothering him but most importantly trust your own instincts, he is your son and you are his mother - no one know him like you do. Trust yourself and things will work out. Hope all goes well

Personally I dont believe that the diet makes any difference to sleeping, mainly because my little one is 7 months and diet is as follows
630am Breast feed
800am Baby porridge
1000am toast and breast feed
1100am Nap
1230pm Fresh sliced tomato, jar baby food, banana and yogurt
130pm Breast feed and Nap
300pm Rice cakes
400pm Breast feed and nap
515pm Same as lunch
645 Breast feed and bed

and he still wakes about 6-10 times every night to breast feed as it is just the comfort and he knows no other way of getting back to sleep.

I noticed that my daughter starting waking up through the night and would suck back 6 oz in only a few minutes. It happened the same time she started having her 2 front bottom teeth break through her gums.

hey, i give my almost 7 month old son half to 3/4 of a jar of baby food a day, and he has on average 4 but sometimes 3 to 5 7oz bottles a day plus upto 15oz of water as well. he doesnt sleep through as of yet but hes happy on the amounts of food he has,but some babies just dont...... i didnt sleep through for a year, your lo may be waking up for the breast as a comfort thing instead of feeling hungry.....

Solid foods shouldn't be the main source of nutrition for a baby this young. You should be breast/formula feeding about 4-5 times a day plus rice cereal/baby food. My 6 1/2 month old daughter's feeding schedule is:
8AM- 8 ounce bottle, rice cereal and some baby food
Noon- 6 ounce bottle and about a 1-2 hour nap
2PM- 6 ounce bottle and maybe a snack (yogurt melts or those puff things)
4PM-6 ounce bottle and another 1-2 hour nap
6PM- 8 ounce bottle and what was left in the baby food container from breakfast
7:30 PM-Bedtime! sometimes I'll give her another 6 ounce bottle right before bed but she sleeps through the night without it now.

I'm also trying juice, which, if you're doing, you shouldn't replace juice with a bottle/breastfeeding session. She doesn't really like the taste though...

Thank you for all replies. I think he might have a better chance at sleeping if he fed more during the day but for some reason he does not. Somedays he doesn not feed from me at all so I make sure I put some breast milk in his food. I have also noticed that he doesnt feed much at night but still wakes up for some reason. Your babies must be teething too so I dont want to blame it all on that. We tried to give him formula last night but he wont drink it! He is such a light sleeper, even with some sleep he still feels tired. I am hoping that he will improve with age but who knows!

My daughter has 3 solid feeds a day and 4 breastfeeds. I would suggest that if you are only giving 3 breastfeeds that you suplement that with solid food, also I would tend to work out a way of making that last feed a little later (5:30pm until morning is a large gap without food if your wanting him to sleep through).
We start our day earlier then what most have written. She has:
6am: breastfeed
7am: solid food
7:30am-10am: sleep
10am: breastfeed
11am: solids
11:30/12noon - 2:30pm: sleep
2:30pm: breastfeed
4:30-6pm: sleep
6pm: solids
7pm: breastfeed
7:30pm: bed for the night
That is only roughly her routine times can change slightly during the day but it is always 7pm breastfeed and bed at night.
I think that he is probably just after more solids and then he should probably settle down for you. If your willing give it a go. Hoping you can start getting more sleep at night and some rest during that day. Good luck

My baby has 3 7oz bottles & 3 meals a day (solids) I dont think 3 feeds a day is enough if your babies hasnt started solids yet, speak to your HV for advice :)

My daughter is 6.5 months. here is her schedule so you can get an idea of what i am doing (and she sleeps through the night from 830 till 8) This is what works best for me. She usually doesn't eat the whole jar of baby food it just depends how hungry she is. But their main source of nutrition should be breastmilk/formula for the first year (less and less as the get closer to 1 but they still need it)
8:00 breastfeed
9:00 breakfast (jar of babyfood)
11:00 breastfeed
12:00 jar of baby food,
2:00 breastfeed
5:00 breastfeed
6:00 jar of baby food and a num num for dessert (she usually plays with it more than eats it) then
8:30 breastfeed and bed

I am still breast feeding him, and he feeds mainly at night! I will give him fruit for snacks and see if that will help.

u r feeding ur son the wrong way. ur son will surely wake up at night cos he isnt being well fed during the day. i will tell u my daughter's feeding schedule and try to apply it on urs. my daughter wakes up at 6. she drinks 230 cc formula milk. then 9:30 breakfast (cerelac, or biscuit&milk, or honey& milk, or multicereals) then 12:30 lunch (vegetables + baby rice). at 3:30 her fruit snack (fruit+biscuit or milk) then i shower her at 6, and at 6:30 she drinks 210cc milk and i give her the last bottle at 10:30 and add to it 2 spoons of multi cereals so she would be full. she used to eat every four hours but her dr taught me that schedule and since then it is working. at first she wont ear big quantities if she is used to eating every 4 hours but they get used to it.

what do you feed him? only solids or he still gets breastmilk or formula? he needs more than just 3 meals of solids. once they fully introduced to solids, i think 3 main meals and 2 snacks in between are normal, plus breastmilk/formula should be a source of nutrients besides solids until at least one year old.
