my daughter is 8 months old and she has been eating the gerber graduates puffs, yogurt melts, and little crunchies by herself. well now that she can feed herself with her fingers she doesnt want to eat babyfood. she wants to feed herself but she cant hold the spoon then she gets frustrated and starts to cry. and then when i try to feed it to her she slaps the spoon out of my hands. how do i get her to eat her baby food without her fighting me??

And don't forget! You can cook/bake all those purees into other foods to boost their nutritional value. :)

My second daughter is also 8 month old and will have no more to do with pureed foods. (And I have a freezer full of them!) I give her a plastic spoon to play with and feed her from my own plate now. If it's solid enough, I cut or tear the food into tiny pieces and let her feed herself. She gobbles it right up!

The key (for now) seems to be that it needs to come from my plate. I can sometimes make something slightly different for her, but I have to serve it that way. She's getting to be very astute about differences!

This just means your child is becoming observant and independent. It can definitely be a royal pain, but this is actually a good sign. :)

I went through the same thing will my little girl, she was so happy eating baby puree until one day started spitting it all out and making her self sick. I first gave her adult rice as I was eating and she took some of my plate and really enjoyed it. To begin with I could give her toys to play with and she would be distracted enough to let me feed her but she soon refused all baby puree's. So I started making soups with very small cubed potoatos vegetables in sizes so she could chew on them and then gave her bread and finger foods. It took her sometime to get used to it but she ate allot more this way than with the baby food, now she eats all our normal food and feeds her self with her hands as she also has not got the coidination to feed her self with a spoon.

I found when she could feed her self she would let me give her a yoghurt or jelly for pudding with out any fuss.

If it is any encouragment it did not take long for this phase to pass. Sometimes I worried so much that she was not eating enough as it seemed with the baby food she eat more, but as she continued to sleep through the night and is gaining weight I thought she must be ok. Just to give you an idea some nights she only ate potato cubes well cooked by them selve for dinner.

All the best, Claire
