is it too early to determine handedness?

My nine month old seems to show a preference for using her left hand. She eats mostly with her left hand, gestures with her left hand, and she grabs items more often with her left hand, using her right to balence herself stanind up. I thought it was too early to tell, but anyone else think they know?

Some babies show a more clear preference than others. My first used mainly his left hand from a few months old. My second we just noticed is left-handed a few months ago, when he was about 5 months old? Somewhere around there (poor second child :) ). Anyway, they can switch when they are older, but since left-handedness is so prevalent in our family, we tend to encourage both boys using their left hands if it's more comfortable for them (vs making them switch to the right or something like that).

My daughter shows a preference with her right hand, so I think that she's going to be right handed. She still does some things with her left hand, but not nearly as much as with her right hand. I don't think that it's too early to tell.
