My daughter is fully b/f & poos only once a week. My son was the same & once went 12 days without any signs of discomfort. When i told my gp about this he said to give him 1oz of fresh oj once a week.....it seemed to work, he started going every 3 days.

My midwife (I'm living in New Zealand) also advised me to give my baby half a teaspoon of brown sugar dissolved in 30 ml of warm water as he went on for days without taking a poo when we switched from breastmilk to formula. My midwife also added that I should only do this a couple of times, when he is really constipated and looks uncomfortable while pooing. Giving this concoction regularly to the baby makes his bowels lazy. If your baby poos rarely but has soft poo (toothpaste consistency or softer) you don't need to be concerned. Babies poo irregularly and some of them can go without it for a week.

I agree, to much water is not good. It last nutrients. If you are breastfeeding you need to breastfeed more, your baby might not be getting enough hydration since your milk is mostly water. If you use any amount of formula, your baby could be reacting to that. I used half pear juice half water with the formula mix and she wents to the bathroom every other day. Although the docotor would have rather me give her just the water, h owever it was not working with her constipation.

Have you talked to your pediatrician about this?!?! Babies this young should not be drinking anything except formula or breastmilk. Babies this young are at high risk for water intoxication that can cause brain damage. Do not give her water or sugar water without discussing it with your doctor first!
