i just gave my daughter peaches, she wasnt to fond of them as she likes oatmeal with breastmilk better, when i started my son of food i would fix him formula and when he took a bite i gave him a drink then another bite adn soon he learned that if he eats food he gets milk. :)

I have been trying to feed my 5-month-old around normal mealtimes. I feel that feeding the babies too late at night may develop bad habits. My daughter is still breastfeeding so she wakes around 6, nurses, naps around 8, then shortly after she wakes I give her rice cereal or oatmeal cereal with fruit, then she nurses one or two hours after eating, naps again, nurses again, and I feed her a second meal of veggies/sweet potatoes, etc. late afternoon/dinner time. have fun!

I started off with carrots as a first food and used half a jar. Then I nurse him. I do it in the afternoon and at night when he's more active. He started when he was a few day shy of 4 months. He doesn't really like te rice but still mainly prefers milk over anything.

I was just like you on my first. :) Start with one time a day, night works the best because it will help their sleep. When you introduce new foods stick with them for a few days so you can see if the baby has any reactions like diareha or skin irritation. if they do, stop feeding that food and talk to the dr. Mixing fruits with rice cereal is great, they really begin to take the food easily. Try out all sorts of foods and give her a great variety. Once she has the one a days down, then introduce another time. If you try to do it all too fast with formula it tends to plug them up a little bit. Keep at least one little jar of prunes and a little bit of juice around just in case that happens. Another reason to put fruit in the rice cereal. I always try to give the "dinner" about an hour before he will take his bedtime bottle and have a bottle with watered down juice or just water while he is eating. Then in the morning I give him oatmeal and fruit around 9 in between his morning bottles. Once you get a routine you will see a decline in the bottles to about 24-40oz a day. Good luck!!!

Right not I give my daughter cereal in the morning (she started with rice, but now has baby oatmeal sometimes) I usually nurse her after her cereal. I nurse her all day, and she has a veggie for dinner. (Usually around 4), and then she's usually good until bedtime. (I start getting her ready for bed around 6:30) I nurse her one last time before bed. I also nurse her a little before her naps. She seems to be pretty good on this schedule.

what i do is i give him about half a small jar of baby food, and i make sure he finishes that, unless he completely loses interest. typically, that's not enough to fill him up, so i feed him about a 6 oz. bottle afterwards. good luck!

Start by mixing just a small amount of baby cereal with formula until thin but not soupy. If all goes well with the cereal after a few days start introducing green veggies one at a time every 3-5 days. after you have introduced all the veggies start the fruits. Baby needs the calories from the formula (there are more calories in a 4 oz bottle than in 3 jars of baby food) to help with brain and eye development. Feed baby a bottle as usual and then an hour later offer food. Start small (you can always make more) and put in a small bowl and never feed out of the jar unless you are 100% sure baby is going to eat it all. Baby's drool helps bacteria grow in left overs. Hope this helped.

My daughter was 4 months on the 7th we have been giving her rice cereal since she was about 3 1/2 months old our dr told her we could give her an oz of pedilight and we could water it down. In the morning she gets the step 1 fruits and juice normally bananas or apples she then will take a bottle in the after noon and more towards dinner also at 7pm she gets a bath and then we give her rice cereal with some kind of veggie and a bottle and she it out for the night. Hopefully some of this will help

I got Pierce to eat his by making the first few rounds really soupy so he could slurp it off of the spoon. Once he got the hang of it, I gradually thickened it up. He still washes it down with a bottle after. And I made it into a game for him to take the spoon.

most doctors want you to wait til at least 4 months to feed solids cause babies still have delicate stomachs at that age and the majority of food allergies are still not known. it's just to be cautious. when you first start feeding your baby make sure he is not really hungry or him might now even want to give it a try. i would start by feeding an ounce or two of milk first. then try the food, he will most likely only eat a few spoon fulls in the beginning and spit most of it out while he is getting the hang of it. not to worry he will pick it up pretty fast. like most mothers i would also finish off the feeding with the rest of the milk/formula. hope this helps.

if he continually pushes the spoon out of his mouth then he might not yet be ready for solids. if he eats a little he may still just trying to figure the whole process out. it takes babies a little bit sometimes to get the hang of eating with a spoon.

I want to start mine on baby food but he wont take the spoon. He gives me an awful look then spits it out. I already give him alil cereal in his 6oz bottle at night but he still wakes up fussing about 3-4 times a night. How can I get him to take the baby food?

Mine was born April 27, and the doc at 2 mths said to start him on solids because he was downing 6 oz of breastmilk every 2 hours, because he never felt full. Here is the routine that we have going. He wakes up around 5:30 - breast feed. He will stay up until about 6:30, and fall back asleep until around 8 am. I mix about 3 tbs of oatmeal with breastmilk, and half a jar of fruits or veggies (I try to add variety)mixed into the cereal. Then he gets nothing but bottles during the day, until around 8 pm when we do rice cereal and half a jar of fruits or veggies. When ever he is eating solids, he also washes it down with milk. Hope that helps you - it works in our house, but it is not guaranteed to work in everyones. I also take from his cues - if he is still acting really hungry after a bottle food, I will give him some plain fruits or veggies.

Thanks so much it does help! So she'll be 16 wks tuesday is it ok if I start now? A nurse from her peditricians office said I could start giving her cereal but just a couple spoon fulls and super runny. We usually give that to her at 10pm along with a 5 oz bottle and she does fine with it. I'm pretty anxious to start her on baby food bcuz shes still waking up once at night and I think that'll keep her full. So do you moms think now would be fine even though she doesnt turn 4 months till the 20th?

My little Blayke is almost 16wks. On the 20th she'll be 4 months old and we'll be starting baby food. I'm a first time mommy so I'm clueless on starting baby food. I know she still has to be on formula till shes a year old but I'm pretty confused on when she'll eat food and when to give her a bottle. I need some help moms. What kind of schedules did some of you use so I can get an idea on how its done! Thank you!!
