To all you moms out there I need some advice. My son (6 months) has been having issues with constipation for almost 2 weeks now. He is eating 1 fruit and 1 vegetable daily along with his formula. I stopped giving him cereal because I was told it can cause constipation. The only thing that has changed in his diet is that he is now eating a wider variety of fruits and veggies which I would think helps things move along. I have been avoiding bananas and giving pears, prunes, and peaches which the doctor said help. His Doctor said to try apple juice 1-2 oz. But that doesn't seem to be helping. He used to have one poop a day, the consistency of peanut butter. Now his poops are small hard and compacted. Sometimes he has 3 of those a day and REALLY has to strain. Other days he doesn't go at all. Poor guy is really uncomfortable when he is trying to poop. How can I help the problem along? Any advice from mommys out there? Help us please! :)

ask your pediatrician about starting miralax - works great in kids >6 mo and is safe and easy to give.

well our pediatricians advice to us is you have to massage his buttocks in circles and drink water always. my little man also got constipated but now he pooped 3 times to 2 times a day now which is good. :D

My little boy was the same when he started on solids. I also tried the prune juice, etc, but nothing worked. It just came right after a few weeks and I guess his little digestive system became used to the food. I also give him a little bit of cooled boiled water with his meals, so think that helps as well.

I have a fried whos son did the same thing. her doctor told her to take a q-tip with petrollium jelly on it and actually put it in his bottom a little bit to moisten it so it wasn't as uncomfortable.. i found it very disturbing and gross but it worked very well

My little nunu also battles to get the poo out- i have found that a bottle a day of water with a spoonfull of treacle sugar really helps it along- as well as a tummy massage in a clockwise motion. he still battles a bit, but those have definately helped a lot!!

My daughter has the same problem. I started making her food, the doc said that would help, no luck. I have to stimulate her with a qtip 3 to 4 times daily and give suppositories every third day or so. the NP said her daughter did this for 8 months-took her to specialists and ran tests, nothing was wrong. This is just normal for some babies. i still give her Oatmeal once daily because she is breastfed only and needs the iron. Unfortunately there is nothing else to do, they will just one day start to poop on their own. I feel your pain. Good luck!!

you can also just add sugar to water and let him sip during the day. But gerber prunes as a meal should help. We used to have a lot of constipation issues when my daughter was younger (shes 6months now) and the doctor adviced sugar-water helped. Now the gerber prunes as a meal helps too. Good luck!
