My daughter has very sore looking skin in the rolls of fat on her neck - due to her multiple chins!! It's very red and is now getting quite smelly too. I tried putting baby powder on it one night to absorb any moisture, but it was worse the next day. So the next day I tried paw-paw salve, as that is great for nappy rash and I thought it might be a similar thing, i.e an area that is not getting chance to dry out and get air to it. Doesn't seem to have helped though. Has anyone else's baby got/had this and do you have any suggestions for how to treat it please?? Thanks.

The best remedy is baby oil. Simply put a little bit of baby oil on the cotton wool, and wipe every crease that your baby has on the chin, legs etc after each bath and I'm sure the problem will disappear. My midwife recommended this method and it really works.:-)

Thanks everyone for your help. I kept it clean and as dry as possible and used the paw paw treatment for a couple of days (so kind of like putting Vaseline on it). It kept it under control but didn't clear it up. I then tried Bepanthen (nappy rash cream) as that has always cleared up any nappy rash in a matter of hours. Bingo!! Within 24 hours it had healed completely and all the redness has gone. I'm now very conscious of making sure it's clean and dry so that it doesn't recur.

My son has this problem. I have to clean and dry many times a day for this to heal. Good luck.

my first daughter had that problem really bad n the only thing that cleared it up was keepihng it clean n putting vaseline on it. do NOT put baby powder on it! it will only make it worse

Make sure you are using a thick bup rag tucked tight under her chin at evry feeding. My son has neck rolls and I am a clean freak about it, I use a thick towel under his chin at every feeding and give him a bath every night. he hasnt had a problem since I started doing this.

I think you're on the right track. Make sure to clean between all the creases very well, then make sure it is well dried so as not to keep the moisture locked in. Then the best thing would be to air dry it...but it's almost impossible to get a baby to keep their head back. If it does not clear up you should get it checked out by a doctor as it could possible be a yeast or fungal infection as well. Good luck, hope it clears up soon!
