Okay so I am on a mission to stop these businesses from not hiring spouses just because we are military. I have been a military wife for almost 7 years and I have had it. Just recently I received another letter from a medical office saying my qualifications do not meet their needs. I have well over five years experience in the medical field stemming from receptionist to medical assistant, and yet three denials in a row from the same place for three different positions saying the same thing not to mention I did get an interview for one position and was told I had all the right qualifications but the doctor was concerned because I was military if I would be around for awhile. Now with this in mind we are stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. and well my husband is SF. So we aren't going anywhere anytime soon. So I sent a letter to the Human Resource department at this company( it has several different medical offices inside of this center) and now I will be writing to every congressman and woman and governor, and Senator, and newspaper and news station and even the President until something is done about this. There are things set in place for every other ethnic group or profile but where is our group to say enough is enough?

A spouse isnt military, they are a spouse. Although it is illegal not to hire people based on military sevrice proving it would be next to impossible. The Army has programs just to help spouses find employment. I dont think they should yet they put so much effort into it.

Trying to get a teaching job in the Ft Riley area with no luck yet. They know an Army wife won't be retiring from their school system.

I WAS RECENTLY TURNED DOWN HERE IN NORTH CAROLINA ALSO AT A MEDICAL FACILITY.I MET ALL OF THEIR QUALIFICATIONS AND STILL GOT TURNED DOWN.I WENT THROUGH ORIENTATION AND EVERYTHING. THE INTERVIEWER ASK ME A LOT OF QUESTIONS ABOUT THE MILITARY AND I ANSWERED THEM TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE.SHE ASKED ME HOW I FELT ABOUT MOVING ALL THE TIME. I WAS SAYING TO MYSELF THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE JOB THAT I WAS APPLYING FOR, SO ON MY WAY HOME, I THOUGHT TO MYSELF, THAT MAYBE I HAVE BEEN DISCRIMINATED ,BECAUSE IM A MILITARY SPOUSE. ITS REALLY SAD THAT PEOPLE JUDGE YOU FOR YOUR BEING A MILITARY SPOUSE. FT.LEWIS,WASHINGTON IS MILITARY FRIENDLY. I HAD NO PROBLEM GETTING A JOB THERE. I JUST MOVED TO FT.BRAGGS AND IM BEGINNING TO HATE IT HERE. I REALLY WANT TO WORK.I NEVER HAD THIS MUCH TROUBLE GETTING A JOB. SOMETHING REALLY NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THS.

The problem is that most employers don't say that they aren't hiring us due to the military... discrimination is illegal. We have the problem because my husband is in the Reserves. He has not gotten several jobs due to his status. They find us unstable... sad that our spouses defend the freedoms of these jerk individuals and company's!

I have been through it as well While living in Germany, I tried to get a job at the PX, which requires no skill at all and they wouldn't hire me b/c I needed certain hours. They said they can't set hours and when I asked how they hire teenagers that can only work evenings, they said "well, thats just different" Ok if you say so. I ended up getting a job as a sub at my kids school which paid really well!! Not to mention the hours were great, but as soon as we moved back to the states, it was the same way. I was overqualified for some jobs and not qualified enough for others. Its a hassle

It really, really, really sucks, but it isn't illegal. It's going to take spouses getting together and creating change through legislation.
