My husband might be deploying next month, and our son is turning two in Nov. I've been through plenty of deployments, but never with a child. I've got plenty of ideas for visual aids and what nots to help so that he doesn't forget daddy, but I'm still wondering if theres any real way he'll understand whats going on. Is there any way thats better than the next to help him through this? What should I expect, and/or look for? What's it going to be like for him when daddy comes home?

Hey there! I have a two year old and my husband deployed 3 weeks ago. You can order the Elmo deployment DVD from Military One Source. We also started telling our daughter that daddy was going away for a long time, months before he actually left. Also, if you know how to find out who your youth coordinator is they have "daddy dolls". They are little soft soldier dolls that you can put his picutre where the face area goes. My daughter LOVES hers. She takes it everywhere and sleeps with it at night. Now, the down side! Our daughter has been acting out, I can't leave her with anyone. She is having major seperation anxiety. I hope this helps!
