Of all the parties you've thrown, which was your favorite?
When I finish a party, I always walk away thinking that it was my favorite party ever. A lot of love, thought and effort goes into creating a theme and I really become attached to each party I throw. If I had to choose one, I would pick Apple of our Eye. I just love the sweet sentiment behind the party theme. I created it for my daughter, Charlotte's, sixth birthday. She has a twin brother and she had always had a joint party with her brother. This was the first time she had a birthday party just for her. I wanted the party to be preppy, crisp and fresh not country. I used bright pink and lime green in the invitations and other printables and built a farm stand to display the desserts on. I loved packaging all the lunch items in little containers which were held in a bushel baskets that were hung on the back of each chair with a huge hot pink ribbon. The girls did apple of our eye make up, made charlie pies (my daughter's nickname), and paper mached apples. What's a great tip for keeping a party affordable?
I bake or make all of my own dessert. Having these professionally done cost so much money. It is very easy to create simple desserts at home. I choose desserts that I can make ahead of time. Also, rather than buying an expensive decorated cake, I often use a simple plain white cake from the grocery store that I decorate with ribbons or a mini banner. Another cost saving idea- buy decorations (chinese lanterns, serving platters, tubs) in colors that you can again.
What are some unique ideas for party favors?
Currently, my favorite party favor is a plastic candy tube filled with one inch gum balls to match the party and a personalized tag. Everyone loves gum balls and the tubes just look festive. I have made several of these for clients and they always turn out great. I also have given t-shirts with the image from the invitation printed on them. I love seeing our little friends at school or in the market wearing them even a year later. It reminds them (and me) of a special time.
