The Best Part of Living in the San Francisco Bay Area

It's a perfect mix of urban living and natural beauty. My family is minutes away from endless city amusements, yet we can walk to the beach. We love to wander and explore San Francisco neighborhoods but we can still be at our favorite campsite in about an hour.

My Favorite Kid-friendly Activity in the Bay Area

We love spending a sunny day at Crissy Field. It has the intense spirit of the ocean, world-class views, and plenty of space to spread out and frolic. We like to bring a picnic and meet several families for a giant day-long party. I grew up in the desert of West Texas so I never take for granted what a gift it is to enjoy the Pacific Ocean and the San Francisco Bay.

Some Say It's Hard to Raise a Child in the Bay Area...

Like many families, we certainly struggle with the high cost of living here, but we also find countless opportunities for our children in San Francisco that just aren't available anywhere else. We take in parades, street fairs, free museum days, free concerts and performances, parks and playgrounds, and delicious foods from around the world. It really is possible to have a fabulous (and educational) time with children on a tight budget. We are also blessed with an amazing community of friends that has blossomed into a sort of make-shift family of transplants. We care for each other's children, celebrate holidays, and even travel together.
