What kind of art inspires you the most?

That's a toughie! I have very diverse taste. I love large abstract paintings with lots of texture, but also the realistic portraits of Singer Sargeant. His paintings of children are amazingly beautiful. I probably prefer work with people as the subject but enjoy landscapes too. As a part-time painter myself I like to try a lot of different subject matter.

What's one of your favorite art projects you've done with your child?

I recently hosted a co-op preschool for my 3 year old and a couple of her friends and we created a great kaliedoscope-looking picture! I took a length of butcher paper and taped it to the wall and then cut out different geometric shapes in all colors according to a pattern, I traced the shapes on the butcher paper in the pattern of a kaleidoscope and the kids all used glue sticks to fill it in. It was fun to see what they were capable of. A puzzle and a picture!

What do you do with all the art projects your child creates?

I have a cork wall in my sewing room and it is covered with drawings I have tacked up. It's the happiest wall in the house! I also tape our weekly coloring pages to our refrigerator door (magnets don't work) and have a "gallery wall" in the living room for seasonal things--leaf rubbings or decorated construction paper christmas trees, or currently wildlife drawings.
