Where I Am On The Political Spectrum

Left. How far left? Find Obama. Turn left. Keep going. I'm over there, in the distance, holding up a sign and shouting.

The Political Issue That's Most Important To Me

Education, social justice and equal rights, all of which are inextricably related, and about which I feel compelled to increase awareness. I started my blog as a concerned parent and taxpayer, after feeling voiceless and disrespected by powerhungry politicians who put special interests before the needs of their constituents. I began to make public my personal correspondence with Governor Scott Walker when I realized he would never reply to, or otherwise acknowledge, the very real and valid concerns of so many citizens in Wisconsin. What started out as a semi-therapeutic way for me to deal with my outrage and frustration became a platform for dissent that has proven both liberating and humbling as others have found it helpful in dealing with their own need to make a difference. So I'll keep blogging, as long as people keep reading.

If I Was In Charge At the White House For One Day, I Would...

One day isn't enough. Change is a long, hard process. But if I could influence policy I would bury the legacy of No Child Left Behind and its ridiculous teach-to-the-test demands and free public education from this cycle of absurdity that hurts both teachers and students. I'd make sure public schools have the funds they need for our students to excel and our teachers to earn a decent wage. I'd close Guantanamo and open up every political prisoner case in the nation for reinvestigation and fair trial. I'd end the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and withdraw our troops from Libya. I'd come out hard and firm on the need for human rights abuses in Gaza to stop immediately. I'd also solve our financial crisis by cutting the military budget and taxing the rich at the same low rate they enjoyed under Ronald Reagan. And I'd work to see Citizens United overturned. Plus create world peace. Oh, and free healthcare for everyone! (Just kidding. Co-pay required. But healthcare all around!)
