Of all the parties you've thrown, which was your favorite?
I absolutely loved throwing my sisters Build a Baby a Library Baby Shower! It was well received, it was decorated simply and beautifully, and the little details made the party! The venue was an old school house turned into restaurant called Kennedy School McMenamins. The room was an old school room! It set the tone. Each table was decorated with a different book theme. One was Dr. Seuss' One Fish Two Fish. Another table was A Pocket for Corduroy. A third table was Golden Book's with two of our family favorite books "Scuffy the Tugboat" and The Saggy Baggy Elephant. The fourth table had the book theme Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. There were books placed around the room and the chalkboard was used to write phrases from other classic kids books. The buffet table had the Madeline theme and Goodnight Moon theme decorations. I even created two hanging lanterns made out of paper circles from different books they were beautiful. I also made a hanging bunting that was made out an old Curious George book (this is now hanging in my sisters nursery)! I purchased cupcakes but made cute little cupcake toppers from images from various children's books. The party was perfect! Loved planning it and received several compliments. http://sweetwilliamsfamily.blogspot.com/2012/05/planning-story-book-themed-baby-shower.html
What's a great tip for keeping a party affordable?
Keepin a party affordable is something I try to do! It is all about your research and plan. Keep the party simple, use your resources such as Pinterest for ideas, shop the sales and keep a theme. It is great if you are crafty and can make your own things. Remember it doesn't have to be elaborate to be a great fantastic party!
What are some unique ideas for party favors?
For my son's 4th birthday party we provided capes and masks for party favors. The kids could wear the capes and masks during the birthday party it was fun. (Adults were asked to come dressed in costume as well !) Another unique party favor could be a preschool summer bucket list placed in a small sand bucket. (I have made these to help keep the kids engaged with their families instead of being bored). For the baby shower I recently threw party favors included Book worms and Bookmarks, i.e., gummy worms and book marks. It was cute and part of the theme. Almost anything can be a party favor! It should support your theme in some format and again doesn't have to cost much or be too elaborate, though if you wanted to it could!
