My Favorite Grade to Teach

I have taught a mixture of Grades K-3, but I have to say first grade has been my greatest experience. First graders are eager to learn and lovable. I learn from them everyday and go to school excited to teach them.

How Being a Teacher Has Helped Me as a Parent

I think being a teacher gives you a great deal of insight into how kids learn and forces you to be able to teach in a variety of ways. It also allows you to see the big picture with regard to education: what is truly important and what can be given a bit less emphasis. Being a parent to three children has completely changed my opinion about parenting and teaching...it is sometimes difficult and stressful to balance the needs of your children and at school, your students. But I know a little time now will save a lot of time later.

The #1 Way Parents Can Help Their Kids Succeed in School

READ with them!! Spend time, quality one on one time doing anything...but especially talking to them, engaging them in conversation. I think children model a lot of what they see at home, so if your kids see that you value reading and education then they are more likely to value it, too. If your kids are of school age, then making sure they are on track at school is important and then following up with help is essential.
