Between raising your children, working, and managing your home, how do you carve out time for yourself?
Well, it's almost 2am and I am up late answering these questions while I anticipate the morning to start with a huge pot of coffee! Lol! Years ago when I became a single Mom of two I figured out what truly made me happy and what was an amusing time suck. I prioritized accordingly. My house is never spotless or as organized as I want. The list of movies and shows I want to watch is always growing. I am okay with all of this because I try to focus on the priorities... not the distractions. When I realized I can make the time to be happy I found the time to make that happen. It made me become a better and happier Mom. Though, I still long for a houseboy to take care of all my chores so I can reach ultimate happiness.
What's your favorite thing to do with your children on the weekends or other free time?
Is everything an answer!? Because my favorite thing to do with my children would be everything! Traveling, creating, exploring, bonding, learning and laughing as much as possible! If it fits in one or more of those categories we are probably doing it. My daughter has special health needs and chronic illness so we often take it one day at a time but we always make the most of each day. Sometimes that involves creating silly stories together while she is feeling too exhausted to get out of bed or fishing on good days. My kids are inspiring artists so if they have paints, crayons or oil pastels they will spend the day creating new worlds and adventures. We go on road trips or disconnect and go camping as much as possible. We love museums, amusement parks and exploring new places together as much as possible. The three of us are also very competitive so we love playing video games and lovingly annihilating one another.
What responsibilities or chores do your children have to help you around the house?
This is something that people either admire about my family dynamics or they think it's too extreme... but my kids help with everything they are capable of. We work as a team in all aspects of our lives and that includes responsibilities. My daughter, who is 10, does everything from making coffee, setting the table, doing her own laundry and making her own lunch. My almost 5 year old son does everything from weeding, helping me take the trash out, folding laundry (imperfectly) and putting groceries away. We do try to have as much fun while getting our chores done! We turn up the music, dance around, sing and have competitions. They are usually willing to help out if it looks fun... seriously! The other day both of my kids wanted to wipe the floors down because it reminded them of Cinderella. I encourage these things... for them, of course!
